RE: Dividend Cover, a problem?18 May 2025 17:07
“So are we on same page Pokerchips, LGEN’s dividends are not covered by earnings, it’s from loans that pay the outstanding dividend amount?”
driftking72 - I suspect that you’re getting your figures from third party web sites. The problem is that these show the IFRS accounting numbers, which are don’t give a true picture of what’s going on.
A quick read of the annual report shows…
Total dividends of1.23bn (page 242) paid out of an Adjusted Operating Profit of £1.711bn (page 2).
After payment of those dividends they were sat on Retained Earnings of £1.714bn (page 130).
There are future profits of £14.8bn in the CSM piggybank (page 2).
In addition, they have quite chunky money turning up from disposals.
I will give you that the IFRS operating profit is only £542m (page 2), but that number represents an accounting profit based on mark to market valuation of investments and doesn’t represent the business’s true position. It’s why they present the adjusted figure, which strips out the mark to market stuff.
There is LOTs on this in my posts if you scroll through my posting history.
