Great story Droverman
My grandfather was an engineer for most of his life as was one of his brother's, Jack.
Jack worked for Vincent HRD for quite a while and his apprentice there at the time was one John Surtees!
He was also on 'Pathfinders' during WWII for which he was awarded the DFC, and he responded to a request form the BBC for 'War Stories' back in 2005 and his was subsequently published.(He celebrated his 100th Birthday a while back but didn't make it to 101 sadly)

Agreed Leftos, although he wasn't at all famous.
He owned a string of Dry Cleaning Stores that his father had started that made him pretty wealthy. Always had nice cars (I remember riding in my first BMW 7 series when I was 12 ) and lived on a private estate in Esher.
Died penniless though as passed ownership of the business over to his son and his son's ex-wife got the lot after their divorce!
(There's a moral to that story me thinks! ๐ค๐คจ )
Hi Tom,
I had fully intended to come over to Harwoods yesterday but the tenant in my own house that I rent out (whilst I still live in my late father's whilst we decide what to do with it) had an issue that I had to go deal with. ๐ฏ๐
Maybe next time (or as you appear to be relatively 'local', if I see you out and about I'll stop and say hi or see I'll you at one of the 'GGP Meets' this summer maybe!)
Fab looking car, I hope you get many miles of pleasure out of it!
(Oh, and Happy Birthday! ๐)
Leftos
The husband of the sister of my late maternal grandfather bought a Ferrari GTO in the early 60's (brand new from the Geneva Motor Show and one of only 36 ever made ) which he used in hill climbing competitions for couple of years before selling it on.
I believe from memory it set him back around ยฃ6,000 at the time (about the same as my parent's house, the one that I grew up in and currently reside after my dad's passing).
He's long gone now but if he was still alive I bet he'd wish he'd kept it!!!

A real thing of beauty Tom!!! Enjoy!
I was at that exact same dealership a while back now when the sp first hit 20p, looking to buy a second hand Vantage Coupe or DB11 cabriolet, before common sense set in and I decided to hold off for a far better sp first! (which came and went as we now know!)
All the best

Thanks Silver.
My biggest holding is GGP with just over 2m shares at and average of 1.1p (so in profit still, despite seeing ยฃ600k in profit evaporate since Dec 2019! ) and with what is currently happening over at Shanta Gold (where thankfully I only hold a modest 39k odd shares and where we are about to get royally shafted!!) I'm a little concerned something similar might happen with GGP (after the blatant sp manipulation seen over the last three years plus!!!)
With the rest of my Portfolio a total 'train wreck' if neither of the above two come good I'm going to have a very miserable retirement (with plenty of time to reflect upon what might have been had I bailed in Dec '19).
Happy New Year and good luck to us all.
Hi Tom, I know that we've never met in person, but I'd love to see your new Aston (if that's not a problem?) as I only live down the road in Worthing (if I can get there).
Have a great weekend (as I'm sure you will!)

''These guys are either trying to force an offer (no sandbagging), or we're dealing with a duplicitous, corrupt board''.
My money's on the latter G_G_G, but thankfully my holding here is minimal (unlike the 2m plus shares currently held in GGP where I'm just praying we don't get similarly screwed over!! ๐ค๐)
Not me Silverfoil, I need to see ยฃ2.577 a share just to break even!!
(Whilst praying for a T/O north of ยฃ1.5bn, then I'll be set!)
Even with a jump like that over here at SAR I'd still be sitting on a ยฃ32K (real money, not paper profit) loss!!! ๐ค๐คจ๐ข
100% jammin86
You've only got to take one look at that 'greasy kebab shop owner' looking MOFO Patel to know it!
On the SP and wishing now I hadn't bothered!!!
(This is really starting to severely grip my s h !t now!!! ๐ก๐คฌ๐คฌ๐ก)
6.25% drop today on exactly what ffs?!??!! ๐
(Looks like the Pond Scum are back at work!?!) ๐ก๐คฌ๐ก
agreed trippy!
new year, same old ****!!! ๐ก๐คฌ
Happy Birthday Tig!!!
Just watched it longbottom
Unbelievable, what an eye opener! (Institutionalised corruption at its finest!!) ๐ก๐คฌ๐ก
Thanks Tom, you too! ๐
Mine's in January too Tom (I'll be 59 on the 10th) but I won't be getting an Aston that's for sure (unfortunately ๐)
Enjoy!
(Hopefully by my 60th I might be able to afford one!? C'mon GGP!!!!)
Nice car to learn in wasred15!
I learnt to drive in my dad's Triumph Stag (Auto) before moving on to my mum's Triumph Spitfire to learn how to drive a manual (the clutch on that car was a 'vicious pig' from memory!)
I used to own a Harley Sportster XL883C badgerbeard but got rid of it 8 years ago now as I was fed up having to 'ring it's neck' to try to keep up with my brother and his mates who all had Sports bikes (brother rides a Triumph Speed Triple so no chance in hell!) and which also took me well out of my 'comfort zone'.
As he's calmed down a bit and now looking at getting either a Harley or a Triumph Scrambler I may get another bike at some point. The new Ducati Scrambler Full Throttle would suit me perfectly and which I was planning on financing with my profits from a Shanta Gold T/O (before we got screwed over with the recent P ISS take offer of 13.5p that is!!)
