The Vice Minister of Mines, Jorge Chávez Cresta, affirmed that if the four mining companies in Ayacucho in the process of closure wish to continue operating, they can request an expansion from the corresponding entities.
The official from the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) announced that he had already signed the documents to invite the three mining companies that operate in Ayacucho, which will be convened as of Wednesday.
"We are going to meet with them, accompany them in their plan to close the inas, if they show us that they are about to present or have presented for this to be extended, within the framework of the law we are going to comply," he said in dialogue with Punto Final.
Two days ago, the president of the Council of Ministers, Mirtha Vásquez, stated that they will pursue an immediate closure of the Apumayo, Breapampa, Pallancata and Inmaculada mining units. In addition, he assured that there will be no expansion for exploitation or exploration processes.
Chávez Cresta stressed that the "current photograph" corresponds to companies that must comply with their closure plan; However, it contradicts the premier, explaining that the door remains open for mining companies to expand their operations.
“This is not final. The picture today is that a mine closure plan is in place. If they have any type of request for an extension, they should do it to the competent entities ”, he said.
“If they present, they have to do it, not before the Minem, but before the Ministry of the Environment (Minam) and the National Service of Environmental Certification for Sustainable Investments (Senace) to modify their Environmental Impact Study (EIA) and see the way this mine closure plan is extended. This has to be dictated by the Minam. At no time has it been said that the door will be closed, "he said.
