Good grief! It’s an Antigen test, it will suffer errors in people tested during the 5 to 12 day incubation period before the viral antigen is sufficient to be detected, usually 1-2 days before symptom onset. Antibodies can take several days to develop after an infection.
It certainly is a massive threat to the likes of other Antigen tests out there, but for goodness sake understand.. Paraytec’s device is testing whole virus particles.. it’s NOT looking for the time consuming creation of anti-bodies in response as all Antigen tests do.
Covid-19 travel plan will let new variants into the UK
May 12, 2021
Covid-19 is likely to be endemic globally for the foreseeable future and mathematical modelling scenarios predict potential for a further UK surge of infections later this year.
The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on coronavirus has identified long queues at airports, failure to separate arrivals from red and amber countries, and fake covid-19 test certificates as significant risks to biosecurity.
Transmission from asymptomatic travellers may also occur for several days after arrival. Indeed, there are a number of reports of importation of infections from India, despite negative testing prior to boarding.
In the UK, border controls are porous. This reflects the political unwillingness to impose stringent controls from early in the pandemic, as well as the inadequate public health measures which have been put in place, for example, the sensitivity and reliability of lateral flow tests; the time and logistics required for more sensitive PCR tests; a large number of exemptions from quarantine, and poor support for those needing to self-isolate or quarantine.

CARB-X is awarding GenomeKey in Bristol up to $3 million in non-dilutive funding to develop a rapid diagnostic for sepsis. GenomeKey is eligible for up to $6.5 million in additional awards if the project achieves certain milestones, subject to available funds
The new diagnostic would reduce the time it takes to determine what bacteria are causing an infection and which antibiotics would be most effective in treating a patient suffering from sepsis. The diagnostic would deliver precise test results in four hours rather than the several days it can currently take.
Sepsis is a leading cause of hospital deaths in many countries. Globally, an estimated 11 million people die each year from sepsis. Recent studies report that sepsis kills at least 46,000 people per year in the UK with potential direct costs to the NHS at more than £1.8 billion per year.

‘It is inevitable that new Covid variants will continue to enter the country, scientists warned this weekend, claiming there are “obvious flaws” in the government’s system for reopening international travel to and from England.
These concerns are shared by other scientists such as Professor Martin Hibberd, of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), who told the Observer that more testing was necessary before international travel should be allowed to reopen. With the current approach, it was inevitable that new variants would enter the country, he said.
“From my infectious disease perspective, for travel, I would like to see more testing, preferably with professionally taken swabs, and more support for quarantining, at home when it is possible – and which can be verified for compliance – together with an effective tracing programme.”

HIGH ALERT New Indian variant ‘of concern’ behind at least 40% of London cases, alarmed scientists warn

The world needs a whole new approach and system, one that will work.
In its report last month, the World Health Organisation (WHO) had said that the Indian strain of the coronavirus has been found in at least 17 countries, including the United Kingdom, USA and Singapore.

All being well, the Prime Minister will confirm tomorrow that there will be a relaxation, we've already indicated a proportionate relaxation on international travel, very limited at this stage because we have to be safe," he said.
"In the same way, as we move into stage three of our road map it will be the case that we will see people capable of meeting indoors.

Scientists have been assessing three closely related variants first detected in India and since found in the UK because they may have mutations that help the virus to evade the body’s immune responses and be more transmissible due to their spike protein mutations.
In the PHE documents, 48 clusters of Indian variant B16172 have been identified, including those linked to secondary schools and religious gatherings, with evidence of community transmission in some of the clusters.
Prof Christina Pagel, the director of the clinical operational research unit at University College London and a member of the Independent Sage group of experts, said: “Clearly this variant has escaped into the community and is spreading quickly. It highlights the fundamental weakness of the red list travel system in that we just don’t know where the next dangerous variant is coming from. This should prompt a complete overhaul of our travel policy for the summer.”
Pagel added that the data should have been made publicly available.
“Public Health England are clearly very concerned about the rapid spread of this variant – as they should be,” she said. “But telling the public about a public health emergency should not need to wait for a specific release day or local elections – this should have been communicated earlier, not least to protect communities where the clusters are.”
Gurdasani said while research was ongoing to explore the impact of the variants’ mutations, action was needed now, noting that people were continuing to mix, trials around large gatherings were being carried out, there has been a proposed relaxation of some Covid measures in schools, and England was planning to restart some international leisure travel on 17 May.

GENEVA: A Covid-19 variant spreading in India is more contagious and may be dodging vaccine protections, contributing to the country´s explosive outbreak, the World Health Organization´s chief scientist said Saturday.
The surge in India is frightening not only due to the horrifying number of people who are sick and dying there, but also because the exploding infection numbers dramatically increase the chances of new and more dangerous variants emerging.
"The more the virus is replicating and spreading and transmitting, the more chances are that... mutations will develop and adapt," Swaminathan said.
"Variants which accumulate a lot of mutations may ultimately become resistant to the current vaccines that we have," she warned.
"That´s going to be a problem for the whole world."

All you are doing Hillbilly is attempting to drive the price down for your own personal reasons and experiences but therefore making TB’s life easier for when he wants to award, purchase and sell more shares in the company he is using as a piggy bank. Oddly, In this circumstance the lower the price goes the more pain is caused to loyal shareholders, the opposite will happen for TB and the profit he will be in a position to make will increase the lower this goes. Being the CEO with 2 directors, who is going to be able to stop this happening? Funny situation!
‘partners and potential licensees who have requested this information‘
It’s more than one current partner and more than one potential licensee. Sounds like (not in the least surprised) a lot of interest.
Malvern Panalytical and Pion must surely be included here. The bigger question is, which was raised, are Glaxo, Astra Zeneca, Fuji etc considered partners as these were the companies we were working with on the small sized box prior to the Covid pandemic. I’m not saying they would want the test to produce and sell, (maybe Fuji?) but they do have the ears of Governments and Government’s need to find a way to monitor and identify ALL infected people which currently is rather costly, slow, double testing and piece meal and even unproven to work, it’s only managing to find the infectious. They must also have the ears of the newly formed UKHSA, it may have actually been formed due to the above advice from GSK and Astra, local and national forward planning. The UKHSA is tasked to create a long term bio defence system at scale for the future as well as now. Our device slots right in and may also explain the more thorough pace seeking the absolute highest quality and highest spec for a long lasting system worthy of Governments investing in for this purpose.
We know Paraytec are transferring the lab findings to a commercial product. We know Carl is tweaking and I believe his aim is to match or better the Gold standard PCR and therefore be in a position to offer the world a global defence system it desperately needs in this modern interconnected world.
We then of course have so many additional areas to target with a multitude of Aptamers which currently take approximately 4 weeks to create which future proofs our tech.
Well, he can award himself further options down the line as a bonus, currently at a price below what he sold, but if he averaged the strike price at what he has been selling for, he’s sale of shares could in effect be a loan. (If that makes sense?) but that would likely be unrealistic and probably get them cheaper. ;-)
Thought Henk245’s post was a great summary on the Covid side of things.
