shares are purchased in the market at the time the dividend is paid or shortly after, in this case the 29th October, at the prevailing price on the day. No calculation involved. Unusual to see a price rise on the day a share goes ex-dividend though.

That would more likely be announced with the full year results, not half year.

Half year results out on Thursday. I'd say antisipation is building.

Have you taken into account stamp duty and commission in your calculation? A difference of 12p is a lot otherwise.
