How did Havieron first drill went
The first drill hole at the Havieron project, HAD001, yielded "exceptional" results, as announced by Greatland Gold in June 2018. The drilling established the presence of high-grade gold and copper, and the results suggested that Havieron could be a very large mineralized system.
Key findings from the first drill hole included:
121 meters at 2.93 g/t gold and 0.23% copper from 497 meters.
A higher-grade section within that, of 11.5 meters at 21.23 g/t gold and 0.67% copper from 568.5 meters.
Bonanza-grade intervals within that section, including 0.5 meters at a peak of 137.69 g/t gold and 1.8% copper from 573 meters.
The positive results from HAD001 and subsequent holes were crucial, leading to a farm-in agreement with Newcrest Mining in March 2019 to further explore and develop the project. The success of the initial drilling campaign confirmed the project's potential and led to a significant increase in Greatland Gold's stock price.
Tell me what happened with the whole process when they start drilling till results
The first drilling campaign at Havieron was a methodical process that ultimately led to the discovery of a significant gold-copper deposit. Here is a breakdown of what happened from the initial preparations to the announcement of results:
1. Initial Exploration and Target Identification
Acquisition: In September 2016, Greatland Gold acquired the Havieron exploration license in Western Australia.
Geophysical Surveys: Greatland conducted ground gravity and Mobile Metal Ion (MMI) sampling surveys over the Havieron target in late 2017. This work, combined with earlier airborne data, identified a magnetic geophysical "bullseye" anomaly.
Historical Data: Greatland's exploration was informed by historical drilling from the 1990s and early 2000s by Newcrest Mining. While those six historical holes had intersected altered rock and some gold and copper anomalism, they had only clipped the very top of the mineralized system.
2. The First Drilling Campaign (April-May 2018)
Planning: Greatland planned its maiden drilling campaign to test the geophysical anomaly and intersect the mineralized system at greater depths than the previous drilling. The campaign involved four vertical core holes (HAD001-HAD004) for a total of approximately 2,438 meters.
Drilling: The drilling commenced in April 2018 and was completed in May 2018. The holes penetrated through a thick layer of desert sands and Permian sandstones before reaching the target Proterozoic sequence at around 400-430 meters.
Core and Samples: As the drilling progressed, drill core was retrieved and sent for logging, cutting, and assaying. This is a critical and time-consuming part of the process, as the core must be carefully logged for geological and geotechnical data, and then samples are prepared and sent to a laboratory for analysis.
