This has gone up from the low 50’s in the last three months without much in the way of positive news. It looks like a takeover pattern to me.
Did those analysts, who downgraded ITV, consider households cancelling their subscriptions to Netflix, AmazonPrime and Disney? These companies are already suffering subscriber fatigue. Inflation and the increase in living costs is forcing people to evaluate what to cut. I wonder what the reaction would have been if ITV had decided not to invest? They do have to invest in new content to attract advertisers. I do find the sell off overdone and illogical. Where was the negative news? It wasn't a profit warning. I can't think of a company that issues such a positive trading update, making almost 500 million profit, that falling 25%.
Is ExxonMobile selling its share in the Sakhalin 2 oil field? What about Royal Dutch Shell? I know that the Norwegian Sovereign Wealth Fund is planning to divest of its Russian holdings. Why the panic to sell? Looney should have told Kwarteng to stay out of it. Do something about selling arms to the Saudis. What action did the government take regarding the murder of Kashogi? How can the UK take the moral high ground when it encouraged Putin’s money? This government is pathetic. We have a rejuvenated Boris Johnston acting like Churchill. Perhaps this crisis will save him. People have short memories. Remember Thatcher being saved by the Argentinians invading the Falklands.
Agree. It’s an unloved company. It’s cheap. It’s making money. It has good management. Could it be a takeover target? Look at Centrica. A similarly unloved company. Sentiment changed and it’s motoring to 80p.
I can see this being a takeover target again. Business is only going to improve because of NHS backlog.
Did you see his interview on Bloomberg? He was embarrassing. He’s totally incompetent - a human disaster. They should have raised interest rates as a statement of intent. They didn’t. They have lost all credibility. The pound falls, inflation increases. What a dunce!
Look at the results of Serco. A very positive trading update resulted in the shares falling.
A left wing President has been elected winning by 50.000 votes. His election manifesto was to ensure that 70% of the mining companies profits would remain in Peru. Obviously, this threat will be reduced but I can see some concern with the result.
This is an opportunistic bid. The company is well managed and will recover. In two to three years the share price will be back over 250p. Why sell?
Agree. They sold it far too cheaply.
I reached the same conclusion. I think Chemring could also follow this upward.
He didn’t buy much. Do the maths. It’s a punt. The detection system has has a long road to go. It will take years to develop. Don’t forget: all CEO’s are salesmen. This company is being pumped by Simon Thompson on IC. He is not a scientist. I’m sceptical.
IC had a sell recommendation when it was 62p; I thought, can they be serious? This Covid situation is temporary. It’s obviously going to hurt but to advise selling when the share price has all the bad news priced in is both illogical and very poor analysis. The IC has made a number of similar recommendations covering a number of companies whose share prices are at all time lows. BP, for example, is rated a sell. I disagree with their analysis and pessimism. In fact, one questions the competence of journalism at the IC. Similarly, the Sunday Times had a piece recently advising investors to ditch the stock. That appeared a few days before the recent update. It was written by a young female, who is obviously knowledgeable about gambling. The Sunday Times has a hatred of gambling companies.
How long do these appeals take?
Any legislation will take at least a year at least. These politicians want to protect the public from harmful addictions. Let's look at smartphones and social media. It's only logical that they impose restrictions on there use in the form of a tax. Then what about tobacco and alcohol? Both are harmful, shouldn't they both be banned? We need restrictions there to. Of course, look at what happened during the prohibition era. And moronic tv programmes?
These restrictions are not going to happen. If politicians are going to protect the public from harmful addictions where do we start? Let's look at smart phone and social media addiction, tobacco companies, alcohol producers. The list goes on. The emphasis must be on individual self control and discipline through awareness education.
The importance of tax revenue and jobs needs to be addressed. Any proposed changes won't happen suddenly. Usually a number of years will be required. The sell off is a good opportunity to buy.
