But a distributor in the sales cycle naming an account they are discussing the product with should be confidential between them and the client until that cycle is finalised. I am not sure the point is that difficult to grasp.

Secondly, you ever worked in sales? Giving out your potential leads to other distributors is utterly mental. Clearly not an NDA in place as otherwise they wouldn't of posted it online. So either at the start of the sales cycle or the end (I'd argue not at the end) but who knows. This isn't a form of PR if you think so it is due to your lack of business experience, people I work with would lose their heads and kill trust if I tweeted about a potential deal with them before the transfer of funds and product had be green lighted.

Social media is of course widely used but ever heard the saying 'counting your chickens before they've hatched'

It's more ego stroking for social media engagement imo. I will happily be wrong here but I just would prefer a company to lock out these sort of leaks after a period of negative Comms/progress.

It's actually jarring that there is that little restriction on Comms from partners. Another one was tweeting about refills at a care home last week.

It dilutes the strength of Comms massively when things leak out like this so consistently. I'm surprised the business haven't said something about it.
