Europe ferro-vanadium price hits 4-month high in active spot market; V2O5 market follows up
The European ferro-vanadium price continued its upward trend in the week to Friday January 17 amid an active spot market, with the vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) price following the alloy price's move higher.

Fastmarkets last assessed the ferro-vanadium basis 78% V min, 1st grade, ddp Western Europe at $24.80-26.20 per kg on Friday January 17 - the strongest it has been since it traded at $26-27 per kg in early October 2019 - and up from the mid-week assessment of $23.70-25.95 per kg, when prices had increased from $22.50-24 per kg. Prices have now risen for four consecutive pricing sessions.
"Offers keep moving, there is no cheap material around. We might see another push up in prices in the coming week," a trader in Europe said.
"The push higher is not only trader-led, end users are also looking for material," a supplier said. "There’s not that much material available here for spot."

Pangang halts some V2O5 output for maintenance – sources
China's Pangang Group has paused some vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) production at one of its three blast furnaces to conduct maintenance, a source at the company confirmed to Fastmarkets.

The maintenance started last month and will last for 70 days, the source said.
Around 1,000 tonnes of V2O5 will be taken out of production over this period at the company's Panzhihua production base.
Pangang has two production sites, one located in Panzihua and one in Xichang, which typically produce a total of 3,450 tonnes of V2O5 per month....

Europe ferro-vanadium up on more spot market activity; V2O5 follows
The European ferro-vanadium market moved higher in the week to Friday January 10 amid increased spot market activity, with the vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) market price following the uptrend.

Fastmarkets last assessed the European ferro-vanadium price at $22.50-24 per kg on Friday January 10, up from the mid-week assessment of $22.50-23.25 per kg on Wednesday, when prices had moved up from $21.95-22.50 per kg on January 3.
The trading range has widened amid a pick-up in spot market activity, market sources said.
"The market is looking alive again this week," a producer said. "There is also demand coming from end users, not only traders, which is a good sign, with end users ready to buy material forward."
"It's getting difficult to secure prompt material. Offers are moving up quickly now to above $24 per kg," one trader said.
