yes - currently Lloyds have a progressive dividend policy.

They could reduce dividends to zero in the future if they have good reason to.
That means zero dividends to fewer shares if buybacks continued meaning increasing money each year for ''other ideas '' even with flat profits.

Buybacks enable an allocated amount for divis to be paid out to fewer shares in the future, and thereby enabling increases per share even with flat profits.

what would be good for a laugh would be to combine the divi 'savings' 'logic' with the statement from NC that the divi would be the same with or without buybacks.

A little tick up for Lloyds.
Volume being helped a bit with the exchange of Lloyds shares since the start of the new repurchase programme.
I am sure many would like to see a swift increase in Lloyds share price - I am not bothered about that though - in no hurry whatsoever to take a few more off of the top.

It is the EU that prevented the most free of free trade deals. The UK would have taken no checks on the movements of goods, but I am afraid the EU didn't.
As I have said, no bad thing though as they had been sending us food not fit for human consumption.
