brix ''Nobody would put 90% of their wealth in one's portfolio''
I have already mentioned your memory - you have already made this statement previously. Yet again, excluding property, I am 90% invested in stock markets. Please remember this time. Most of my cash in held in my HSBC trading account - they will not be going bust -I could very quickly spend the cash in ring fenced stocks.
2. a forecast statement from a non existent position ever correct.
I may as well say that if we had tax cuts rather than increases the economy would have grown by 4% more over the next few years .
''a success?''
yes completely - just what the voters wanted. End of Brussels dictatorship. End of £10 Billion per year being given to the EU. End of freedom of movement. Plenty of jobs available. Free to set up independent trade deals if beneficial. No more having a dozen east European men renting a 3 bed property next door to one of my children. So the best decision the population of the UK could have made.
a1 ''Hoping for substantial increase in divi return over coming year''
Lloyds have a progressive policy - forward 2023 yield based on the current price should be between 5.5 and 6% providing a detrimental unknown does not happen. current ftse100 yield is about 3.8%
I said a few months ago that base rates needed to be a lot closer to core inflation - core inflation is currently at 6.2%. My opinion is that the base rate should already be at 5%. Rates initially were raised too slowly. The initial rise from 0.1% to 0.25% should have been an increase to 1%. I am not sure whether a 4.5% peak (not high by historical standards) would be enough to do the job.
sbt you have a choices - switch to a lower rate mortgage and/or make additional payments/lump sums to effectively get a 7.5% net return.
In your situation, I would be selling some stocks to reduce the mortgage outstanding. On a base rate there should be no limit to how much you can reduce your mortgage amount by, penalty free.
Getting rid of my mortgage at the earliest possible time was a high priority for me.
