They started the bank with a high street presence when all other banks were retreating from the high street and indeed some starting up just online. It was never a well thought out strategy. Their current market cap equates to about a weeks worth of Lloyds profitability .

Opened a very small for fun SB for Metro about a week ago, but went in much larger yesterday - just closed with an excellent profit (about 12 points).

I gave my view on Metro a few years back when the idiot 'NOVECKINGOOD' was saying that Metro was a better investment than Lloyds. He oesn;t like to be reminded of that.

I wasn't aware that life expectancy's were still on the increase. It is more a case of over inflated property prices that had been fuelled by low mortgage rates over a long period combined with government schemes and in addition the once 3 - 3 and half times salary limit disposed of. Now we are currently back to near pre financial crash mortgage rates but with price/income ratios still high.

I believe 35 year mortgages in the US are at a rate of between 7-8% (not good)

open your eyes a bit more - Lloyds forward yield is at getting on for 6.5%.

A £2 Billion buyback adds to the total return - based on the current price about a further 7%, on top (actual percentage return from a buyback obviously in determined by price paid for shares)

HSBC are selling the Canadian operations for about 10 Billion dollars, which equates to about a fifteenth of the current market cap .

I only sold a small fraction of my shares,the last 2 purchases which were themselves buying back a previous sale at over 660p. I have certainly not sold a few because of any idea of over valuation. We are back to quarterly dividends which should be about 50 cents in total this year.

Proceeds from Canada may give rise to a return to shareholders, but equally go on further acquisitions (recently made one)

I believe currently Lloyds are making between 8-£9 Billion a year underlying profits - the current market cap is about £28 Billion.

Attractiveness is in the eye of the beholder - it looks attractive to me

it is shareholders that determine the price - if no shareholder was willing to sell for under 50p then the share price would rise to 50p
