Cars were sold LEGITIMATELY under what was allowed at the time.

There is now a chance that a false 'scandal' will be created with new rules being applied retrospectively to override what was previously allowed. THERE IS NO SCANDAL.

I think you are missing the point. There was discretion to lower the cost of a car , counteracted by an increased interest/commission rate payable, to enable the customer/dealer to make the purchase/sale. There is no scandal to see.

Clearly sums it up - As I have said, there is no scandal. It is up now to the FCA whether or not to create a false scandal. Totally outrageous if they decide to do so.

Could you please stop this nonsense - A £2 Billion buyback did not come as a surprise to the market - that as a minimum would have been expected for months. The increased share price on results day had NOTHING TO DO WITH AN ANNOUCEMENT OF A £2 BUYBACK.

I would say what in my opinion the reason is.

Lloyds has risen over 6% on a day that hundreds of millions have been put aside in provisions, just in case it is found that people who were happy to purchase a car at X% interest should have some money returned and in addition get 8% per year interest on the amount returned for each year since purchase, when for a long period in the same timeframe, interest on cash for savers was near to zero.

The current share price is 45.98.

If without buybacks it would work out to 38.52 that would give a price per share differential of 7.46p.

If the current price was 91.96p then without buybacks it would be 77.04p giving a pence per share differential benefit of 14.92p, but the same percentage difference.

Although really, the benefit should be looked at as a percentage benefit. The differential in pence per share would obviously change with share price movements, but the percentage difference remains the same

There are currently 64,086,434,019 shares in issue. Without buybacks there would have been 76,466,264,008 shares in issue.

Using these figures you (or anyone else) can work out what each share would currently be without buybacks having taken place, and thus knowing the share price differential benefit that buybacks have given.

Every day that a buyback for cancellation takes place, it will have an effect on the relative value of each remaining share, which of course is not detectable on a daily basis. What we do know though at the end of a programme is the relative difference in price that the programme has given, based on a share price at any given time and the increased percentage of shares that would be in issue had buyback programmes not taken place.

The only factoring in is that the market knows that £2 Billion is being returned to shareholders via a buyback and a final dividend amount per share has been confirmed .

At the end of the programme the price per share could be anything, based on what the market values Lloyds at then. - currently under £30 Billion
