You'd think something that big would be on mainstream media... nothing. Any idea why? Possibly due to it probably being bs?
I'd also point out Trolls wasnt even a Disney film, was Universal, hence the AMC storm.
Assuming you're referring to Artemis Fowl, if you knew anything about the movie you'd know this was destined to head straight to D+ even if cinemas were open. Was never going to take money and moving it saves a bigger loss for Disney on a flop.
They'll just wait till all this has blown over and then make a cheaper offer.
Nice, what's the source for this?
Biocryst (Nasdaq BCRX) are currently trialling a similar but superior drug called Galidesvir in Brazil. Close to phase 1 results, expecting EUA under animal rule in the US soon after and then the PR headlines. It's a drug that does the same kind of thing but with less side effects (kidney damage) and can be developed into a pill form. I've been heavily invested since about $3, it's currently mid $5 with hardly anyone knowing about it. Disclaimer - Not financial advice, just an interesting company you could look at. Pharmaceutical stocks in the US are crazy volitile.
Don't panic about the Universal/Cineworld situation. It's mainly an AMC issue, they're the ones that have said they're not playing Universal at all. Cineworld have just reiterated their stance of not playing movies that don't stick to the window, it's always been that way, hence no Roma, Irishman etc in Cineworld. Either way, a lot of it is posturing to get better terms for future movies.
Earliest opening date for cinemas is phase 3, 4th July. However Tenet isn't out till over a week later so no panic. Still a chance Tenet gets pushed given what's happening in LA with stay at home order through till August. It might be just one city but it's quite an important on as far as movies go.
July 4th at the earliest. And pubs are in the phase 3 along with cinemas, not further down the list.
Bernhard.... What makes you say that?
My average is £31.27. Started buying when they hit 19p I think.
You must of missed the really obvious cinema ticket image with ENTRY on the plan then? The entire cinema industry in the UK had already been talking to the government about reopening and how they can safely implement SD. Hell, the few people left that aren't furloughed. That's literally all they're doing at the moment. Talking to studios and putting the plans in place so they can reopen asap. All being well, open my early July and in time for the release of Tenet.
Matt,
Just the fact that you think all studios would boycott cinemas to all go VOD shows me exactly how little you really know about the industry. That's simply not how it works. I'd also suggest closing your shorts before Boris announces cinemas will be reopening next month and this hits £1 at least.
It's being blown out of proportion and will blow over before cinemas get going again. AMC are refusing to play any Universal. Cineworld however have just reiterated the same position it's always had. They will not play a film from ANY studio that doesn't respect the 90 day window. Their CEO is a massive believer in the window and is key in driving it's importance in the industry.
So, some facts. Universal have royally pi**ed of cinemas with their trolls stunt. Takings of $100 million US domestic is rubbish considering everyone is going stir crazy sat at home. The boss of Universal is just playing a publicity game coming out and saying that. AMC have rightfully responded. But, don't for one minute think Cineworld are ok with it, they're not, they're just as pis**d at Universal, just haven't said so publicly. It's a regular game of cat and mouse between certain distributors and theater chains regarding the theatrical window. By the time Bond rolls around (the next big Universal release) all will be forgotten and everyone will show Universal movies, just maybe with more generous terms in the agreement for cinemas. Short term it'll just make the news but long term it won't change things, UNLESS, AMC hold firm but Cineworld go a different route and barter better terms, in that case it will help CW massively. It's a testy partnership between theatre chains and distribution in which at times they're best friends but others siblings having a fight.
Matt,
With respect you're talking utter rubbish. Cinemas will always be around. People need them as theres no social or sensory experience like them, no matter how big your TV, how loud your speakers they will never compare. VOD wise, price is already at £16 for a 48hr rental and it hasnt worked for Universal with Trolls, it's done so badly they won't even release the figures.
And your point on Cineworld already running at 10% is absolutely made up on the spot. By the end of next year this will he flying given all the films are being pushed back till late 2020 and 2021. It's also relatively easy to keep social distance restrictions in place in a cinema. Putting them ahead of pubs and clubs. Come November I guarantee Bond will be selling out screens everywhere and making millions.
