Scientists warn the AMOC could collapse and throw Europe into chaos
The AMOC, a massive Atlantic current system that helps keep Europe unusually warm, may be weakening toward a dangerous tipping point. It moves around 7,000 Olympic swimming pools of water every second and carries enough heat to shape weather across the planet. If the AMOC collapses, parts of Europe could cool by 3 to 10°C, winter storms could surge, Atlantic sea levels could rise, and rainfall patterns could shift across the Amazon, Africa, and Asia. Scientists say the strange “cold blob” in the North Atlantic may be one of the clearest warning signs that this hidden climate engine is already slowing down.
PHE may get floods.
