Please can someone explain why the 50 Ah prototypes are 'made and ready to go' but have to wait for 10 Ah prototypes to be evaluated before they are sent out? We are all champing at the bit here hoping for batteries to market before the Chinese take over the world and this seems like a drawn out process. I am obviously missing the point somewhere.

Love the power plant. But not so chuffed with the fizzy drink carbon capture. One burp and it's back out!

In all the media articles about Grid scale BESS and planning battles etc there is almost no emphasis at all on the type of battery proposed. It seems the writers all assume that 'batteries are made of lithium'.

We need some high profile exposure to steer people towards our alternative.

Hydrogen combustion? Cryogenics? Fuel cells? Something else?

I was out spending a little, in celebration of reaching £10 sp. I bought something from a clever young man who enjoys buying and selling expensive things. In conversation we talked about my time on submarines and he described his work as R & D for Rolls Royce. He said he was not allowed to discuss his work but he could tell me that there is an interesting future in Hydrogen.

What do you think RR have in progress here? Do any of our valued contributors have any insight here?

I've spent some time at 600 metres in the big black tubes with RR stamped on the "icky"bit in the middle. Looking forward to pocket-sized parrot cage version, I'll buy one of them!

Fascinating ideas. I believe the SMR s that we are looking forward to from RR have a footprint of several acres. I am curious as to whether a design which could be suitable for ships, moonbases, islands, remote communities, disaster relief etc would be similar or necessarily a very different beast with other R & D costs.

I imagine something factory built, possibly comprising something like 4 large shipping container sized parts. Surely it would mean SMR/electric propulsion for ships. Is this possible?

Interesting link. Wouldn't it be nice if RR partnered with British company Invinity to use home designed and built BESS which are fireproof?

Let's hope they have some smart people supporting the application. As always the information presented to us, the general public reading papers and newsfeeds, is delivered by people who don't know the business and don't understand the significance of the detail. They don't know that batteries are available with no fire risk. They don't know what a kilowatt hour is or the difference between energy and power. All we really want is accurate truthful information but that deems too much to ask for!

When I read news articles about planning permissions for new installations the reporters seldom seem to mention the type of battery i.e. Lithium or fire safe type.

Suspect the reporters don't know anything about the subject. Also suspect that the general public feeding on this low quality information are kept ignorant.

Would it not be helpful if IES put a bit more effort into spreading the word to the media and the general public that VF batteries don't burn and are more cost effective.

First thoughts and seeds of ideas for big developments probably come from people who are not aware of safe battery systems.
