The Bank of England has backed the new Chancellor of the Exchequer, Kwasi Kwarteng's plan to scrap the cap on bankers’ bonuses in a rare public intervention,

The BoE said it had never supported the cap, which was imposed before Brexit, and it noted that there are more effective measures to stop excessive risk-taking by bankers.

Just hope the Bank of England and MPC do the right thing for the country next week and hike rates 100 basis points, Lloyds investors will be recommending Governor bailey for a knighthood

Review of results

During the half-year to 30 June 2022, the Group recorded a profit before tax of £249 million compared to £193 million during the half-year to 30 June 2021, an overall increase of £56 million. The Group has benefited from good performance in its core businesses including increased lending combined with rising interest rates and foreign exchange trading activity.

Any time a plane is grounded it's a cost the plane isn't making money, staffing, ground crew, relocating pilot's, and relocating new pilot's as they only allow to work a set amount of hrs this is all cost to the business jo public doesn't forsee

Thousands of passengers are set to face even more chaos this year, as French air traffic control strikes lead to mass cancellations for UK carriers.

Up to 80,000 Rynair passengers will bear the brunt, with the Irish budget carrier announcing 420 flight cancellations.

According to the BBC, EasyJet has cut 76 flights and British Airways has cut 22, while Air France said it would only run 45% of its short-haul flights.

UK retail sales drop 1.6% m/m in August vs 0.5% forecast

Sept 16 (Reuters) - British retail sales fell much more than expected in August, in another sign that the economy is sliding into recession as the cost of living crunch squeezes households' disposable spending.

Retail sales volumes dropped by 1.6% in monthly terms in August, the Office for National Statistics said - the biggest fall since December 2021 and worse than all forecasts in a Reuters poll of economists that had pointed to a 0.5% fall.

Chancellor of the Exchequer Kwasi Kwarteng will deliver an emergency mini-budget to bring in winter tax cuts for millions of people and set out more detail on energy support next Friday, 23 September, according to reports.

In the mini-budget, the government is expected to confirm plans to reverse the recent rise in national insurance, even though it benefits higher earners the most, handing back about £1,800 a year to top earners while the lowest earners get about £7 a year.

The Bank of England might have to raise its basic interest rate by 100 basis points next week and go all the way to 5% if the UK is to attract the foreign capital required to keep the Pound supported, according to new research.

Credit Suisse says for the Pound to remain supported the Bank of England (BoE) must act decisively and accelerate the pace it raises interest rates, whereas opting to stay in the 'slow lane' would "doom GBP to further losses".

High street lenders NatWest and Lloyds pushed near the top of the FTSE 100, gaining more than 1.75 per cent, “driven by investor expectation of higher interest rates and how that might have a positive impact on the banking sector’s earnings,”
