London City has taken the crown as the UK’s best airport for security waiting times, according to new research.

A survey published today by consumer champion Which? showed that the Newham airport had an average queuing time at security of 12 minutes – well below fellow London airports such as Gatwick or Heathrow.

With an average wait of 16 minutes Gatwick came in fifth and was followed by Stansted, Luton and Heathrow.

The UK economy will languish behind its rich counterparts next year amid a tough inflation surge driven by worker shortages and an “untargeted” energy support package, a new report reveals.

Britain’s economy will shrink 0.4 per cent next year, the worst performance of any country in the G7, according to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

And, in 2024, the UK will squeeze out the worst growth in the G7 at just 0.2 per cent.

Russ Mould, investment director at AJ Bell, said: ‘The better-than-expected dividend and buyback from Virgin Money are good news on their own but are also crucial for what they say about management’s confidence in the outlook for the business.

Shares in Virgin Money surged after it cashed in on rising interest rates and boosted investor payouts.

The stock rose 14.9 per cent, or 21.75p, to 167.35p yesterday as the bank posted a 43 per cent increase in annual profits to £595million for the year to September.
