Mologic has announced that, following successful independent validation by the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) and St George’s, University of London, their professional-use rapid diagnostic test for COVID-19 has been certified with a CE mark and is ready for manufacture and global distribution.

The “triple antibody” test will provide health professionals with an accurate indication of the presence of IgA, IgM and IgG COVID-19 antibodies within 10 minutes.

Rigorous independent assessment has shown the tests to have a sensitivity of up to 96% (21-28 days post symptom onset), and specificity of 98.8% (95% CI 96.6-99.8).

The test has been validated to date on 108 positive samples, 255 negative samples, and 223 cross-reacting samples in line with the WHO prequalification requirements.

As with our laboratory antibody test, we will continue to validate the rapid test against a large number of well characterised positive and negative samples. Devices are currently completing validation with the Institut Pasteur de Dakar in Senegal.

In the coming days, full performance data to date will be published, alongside a full breakdown of pricing.

To guarantee access to the technology among low income settings, Mologic has established an independent manufacturing facility that is delinked from commercial return. Global Access Diagnostics is nearing completion and will manufacture up to 40 million devices per annum with a target price of £1.

The UK government is set to launch free Covid-19 antibody tests, which deliver results in 20 minutes, following finger-prick after successful secret trials.

The test was found to be 98.6% accurate in secret human trials. It has been developed by the UK Rapid Test Consortium (UK-RTC), a partnership between Oxford University and leading UK diagnostics companies.

ShoreCan and Essar Mauritius Agree to Extension

Calgary, Canada; London, United Kingdom: July 21, 2020 - Canadian Overseas Petroleum Limited ("COPL" or the "Company") (XOP: CSE) & (COPL: LSE), an international oil and gas exploration and development company focused on offshore Africa, is pleased to announce that its 50% owned joint venture company Shoreline Canadian Overseas Petroleum Development Corporation ("ShoreCan") and Essar Exploration & Production Limited (Mauritius) ("Essar Mauritius") has agreed to extend the backstop date to August 4, 2020 to enter into definitive documentation as outlined in the agreement in principal, announced on June 4, 2020, to resolve their disputes with each other concerning, among other things, their respective obligations under the Essar Exploration and Production Limited (Nigeria) ("Essar Nigeria") Shareholders Agreement (the "Shareholders Agreement"). The agreement between ShoreCan and Essar Mauritius to extend the backstop date also extends the immediate stay in proceedings of the claim filed by Essar Mauritius against ShoreCan in the High Court of Justice of England and Wales, also announced on June 4(th) , until August 4, 2020.

The British pharmaceutical company has announced "positive results" for a drug it is developing against a severe form of Covid-19 disease. Its action has seen its price multiplied by more than six.

Synairgen SNG 420.55% is widely illustrated this Monday on the London Stock Exchange . The action of this small British pharma soared to 552% , before returning to a gain of 375% in the middle of the afternoon. A performance linked to the announcement of "positive results" concerning SNG001 , an experimental drug against a severe form of the Covid-19 disease.

The University of Southampton study of 101 patients concludes that the chances of developing serious illness (requiring ventilation or leading to death) during the two weeks of treatment were reduced by 79% for patients receiving SNG001 by compared to patients on placebo, explains Synairgen.

In addition, patients treated with SNG001 were twice as likely to make a full recovery during the treatment period as those who received placebo, she continues.

Unconfirmed results

Stock market rules mean Synairgen is obliged to report the preliminary results of the trial.

The results have not been published in a peer-reviewed journal, nor has the full data been made available; so the BBC cannot confirm the claims made for the treatment.

But if the results are as the company says, it will be a very important step forward in the treatment of coronavirus infections.

The scientist in charge of the trial, Tom Wilkinson, says if the results are confirmed in larger studies the new treatment will be "a game changer".

The trial was relatively small but the signal that the treatment benefits patients was unusually strong, he says.

UK’s Synairgen claims ‘major breakthrough’ treatment

British pharmaceutical company Synairgen claimed its new respiratory coronavirus treatment has reduced the number of hospitalized Covid-19 patients needing to be placed on ventilators.

The drug, SNG001, is a formulation of a naturally occurring antiviral protein called interferon beta, inhaled directly into the lungs via a nebulizer. In a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of 101 patients between March 30 and May 27, the treatment produced a 79% lower risk of patients developing severe disease than those given a placebo. Synairgen also claimed that patients treated with SNG001 “were more than twice as likely to recover (defined as ‘no limitation of activities’ or ‘no clinical or virological evidence of infection’) over the course of the treatment period.”

The study has not yet been published in a peer-reviewed journal, and the full data has not been made publicly available, but Synairgen CEO Richard Marsden said the trial could “signal a major breakthrough” in the treatment of hospitalized Covid-19 patients. —Elliot Smith
