ImmuPharma PLC’s (LON:IMM) lupus candidate Lupuzor could become a US blockbuster by generating over US$1bn revenues per year, according to Life Sciences Division.

The investment bank raised its target for the AIM-listed drug developer’s share price to 100p from 76p on the back of the recent deal with US speciality drugs group Avion Pharmaceuticals.

Avion will fund a new phase III trial, while Immupharma will also receive milestone payments and an agreed 17% royalty on sales.

ImmuPharma has the potential to rack in annual royalties of up to US$170mln from the deal, according to the Life Sciences Division analysts.

This deal is only exclusive to the US market, meaning ImmuPharma can look for other distribution partners in other geographies, such as Europe, where there is no need for a new trial given Avion’s funding commitment.

Further agreements will allow ImmuPharma to multiply income from Lupuzor with other royalties and milestone payments.

According to Life Sciences Division, Lupuzor may get second or third place in the US market if rival AstraZeneca PLC’s (LON:AZN) Anifrolumab gets a US licensing deal.

“Lupuzor with a 71.1% response rate in the anti-ds DNA auto antibody-positive patients, could also eventually be the product with the best overall response rate and safety profile in the market,” LSD analysts added.

Shares in ImmuPharma were trading 3% higher on Friday afternoon at the 21.6p.

ImmuPharma announced a major US licensing deal on 28 November 2019 with Avion Pharmaceuticals (“Avion�), a US specialty business that has a focus on Rheumatology, Women’s health (Lupus afflicts women more) Dermatology and other therapeutic areas. Avion have a strong marketing and commercialisation operation (with over 100 specialist sales reps).

Avion has exclusively in-licensed Lupuzorâ„¢ for the US market for Lupus (SLE) and other indications and agreed to fund an international Phase III clinical trial for up to US$25m. In addition, Avion will pay up to US$70m in milestones and a royalty stream tiered to 17% has been agreed.

We have always believed that ImmuPharma could deliver such a successful deal for the US market. This deal with Avion was aided by the strength of the clinical data (and safety profile) from the Phase III trial announced last year. Our detailed analysis of the respective cohort data, driven by the performance of the peptide in the auto ds-DNA antibody positive patients validated our assumptions of the value of Lupuzorâ„¢.

We now see Lupuzorâ„¢ as having the ability to generate blockbuster sales in the US (£1bn+) alone (previously US and EU combined) – which when coupled with a royalty stream of up to 17% on revenues, could see an annual royalty to ImmuPharma’s bottom line of £170m per year.

What is particularly impressive about this deal is not only ImmuPharma’s ability to identify and execute a new licensing partner for Lupuzor™ but also the opportunity available for ImmuPharma to find new distribution and marketing partners outside the US for Lupuzor™, for e.g. in Europe, where a new trial would not even be required given Avion’s funding commitment.

This means that there is a distinct possibility that further licensing deals could follow bringing in an attractive additional royalty stream, and additional upfront and milestone payments. Outside of Lupuzorâ„¢, we believe that ImmuPharma has the potential to generate news-flow on its other pipeline assets including Nucant and UreKa.

Based on the financial assumptions for this deal, and a lower risk profile (reduction in risk premium in our DCF model) we increase our target price (which is 50% discounted) from 176p to 200p / share. BUY.

Small cap engineering firm Sabien Technology [LON:SNT] which is focused on carbon reduction in the commercial heating sector saw its shares jump 26% today, although this needs to come with the usual caveats of a £2m market cap and a 7% market spread. Although gains were building across the day, news of a £450,000 capital injection from the company’s chairman was announced shortly before the close which may raise some eyebrows. The new financing could be transformative and given the tear many green energy stocks have been on in recent weeks, a degree of excitement here is probably to be expected.

ImmuPharma reported that Avion Pharmaceuticals had asked the FDA to consider the conditional approval of Lupuzor ahead of the completion of the final-stage clinical study.

A conditional approval, which would allow Lupuzor™ to be marketed before the completion of a new Phase 3, would be based on the ‘clinically significant data’ generated in the completed Phase 2 and 3 clinical trials to date that showed the treatment was ‘safe and well tolerated.’

In anticipation of the start of the new Phase 3 clinical trial, ImmuPharma said last week that it had initiated the production of a new batch of the Lupuzor™ drug specifically for the trial.

Lupuzor™ is ImmuPharma's lead compound and an autophagy immunomodulator for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE or lupus) a potentially life-threatening auto-immune disease. It also has the potential for treating other auto-immune diseases other than lupus.

· Data analysis is underway, and the Company expects to announce initial results on 29 January.

The Cane Creek core and overlying reservoir sidewall cores have been transported to a laboratory in Houston for detailed analysis. Zephyr expects to receive detailed results from this analysis of reservoir data over the coming weeks and plans to give an initial report to Shareholders later this week as outlined above.
