CellCube Energy Storage Systems Inc. (CSE: CUBE) (“CellCube” or the “Company”), a company focused on the energy storage industry, wishes to provide a corporate update on the sale of its vanadium assets and remaining stake in Enerox.
Corporate Update
In connection with our last press release dated August 4, 2020, Cellcube has been actively in discussions with our debenture holders with regards to monetizing the assets of the company due to the security they hold over the assets. Cellcube is pleased to announce they have come to terms with the debenture holders. Cellcube has sold their full investments in both the vanadium assets (the Bisoni-McKay project) and its remaining stake in Enerox and the full proceeds of the sale will be distributed to the Debenture holders. The proceeds of the sale of the assets were less than the amounts owing to the debenture holders but the Company was able to negotiate the debenture holders relinquishing any further security and debt outstanding from Cellcube.
The Canadian Stock Exchange (CSE) continues to halt the trading of Cellcube as the Company has not filed its June 30, 2019 audited financial statements. Cellcube continues to make progress with its auditors but requires additional capital to fund the audit process. Cellcube is hopeful that it can come to a resolution with its stakeholders, so that the Company will be in a position to file its financials and resume trading.

As the lithium-ion battery energy storage system (ESS) industry grows and demand for renewable energy increases, ESS facilities will likely continue to proliferate in communities and urban areas around the world, providing multiple benefits, along with some risks.

Lithium-ion batteries are generally very safe, but they have been linked to fire, explosion and hazardous material exposure under certain conditions. The April 2019 explosion at a 2.16 MWh lithium-ion battery ESS site in Surprise, Arizona, left four firefighters severely injured and spurred the energy industry and first responders to grapple with new safety considerations.

Given this is a fairly new technology, most first responders have limited experience with lithium-ion battery fires, which behave differently than typical fires.

"Lithium-ion batteries have flammable chemical electrolytes and are susceptible to thermal runaway if the battery has faults, contaminants or experiences physical or operational stress," said Ken Boyce, principal engineer director, UL Energy and Power Technologies division. "Additionally, lithium-ion batteries can spontaneously reignite hours or even days later after a fire event if cells go into thermal runaway, making decommissioning, deconstructing and storing more complicated. Adding to that complexity, safety requirements for ESS sites are still evolving as more information about the technology becomes available," he said.

Research and curricula for first responders on lithium-ion battery fires on this scale is inadequate, leading to situations where the fire service must piece together limited information to suppress fires and keep themselves and surrounding communities safe. This was the case in Surprise. Firefighters did everything in accordance with the most recent training and information available to them and an extremely dangerous – potentially avoidable – explosion still occurred.

Reuters) - Commodities trader Trafigura Group [TRAFGF.UL] has formed a new company, Nala Renewables, as a joint venture with IFM Investors to invest in a series of solar, wind and power storage projects, it said on Monday.

Nala will build a portfolio of renewable energy projects with total capacity of 2 gigawatts (GW) within the next five years, Trafigura said in a statement.

The initiative is an extension of a partnership with Australia-based IFM that took shape when the fund manager took a 50% stake in Trafigura subsidiary Impala Terminals in 2018.
"The (Nala Renewables) business will also build and operate projects adjacent to Trafigura Group's mining, port and smelting infrastructure assets worldwide and the renewable energy generated will be used to power some of those facilities," Trafigura said.

In addition to gazetting the Minister of Energy’s Sector 34 determination to procure 11,813MW of power by 2022, the Department of Mineral Resources also convened a bidders’ conference to address the country’s emergency power procurement needs.

The DMRE hosted the virtual conference on 25 September to explain the recently launched Risk Mitigation Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (RMIPPPP).

The department said in a statement the conference was attended by more than 1,000 delegates, including registered and other interested bidders, project developers, financiers and energy sector stakeholders.

South Africa’s Integrated Resources Plan (IRP2019) indicates a short-term electricity supply gap of about 2,000MW between 2019 and 2022.

Eskom itself says its needs 4,000MW in the short to medium term to address the country’s electricity supply crises. This RMIPPPP is a direct response to fill the stated 2,000MW of supply gap and reduce the use of expensive diesel-based peaking electrical generators in the medium to long term.

The IPP Office says the RMIPPPP is “an innovative approach that once again puts South Africa at the forefront of global innovation in the electricity procurement”.

The innovative and defining part of this emergency procurement programme is a one-of-a-kind output-based Request for Proposal (RFP), which asks for an optimal solution to meet grid requirement without prescribing what technology needs to be used.

Eskom, as the system operator, specifies the system requirement only stating the solution should be “dispatchable, flexible generation able to operate between 05h00 and 21h30. This complements the daily demand profile and is in line with the loadshedding times that we have been experiencing. The solution also has to be able to provide energy, capacity and ancillary services to Eskom”.

It’s also quite possible they ended up transferring far more than 10 million to another account, which would explain why zero notifications when they fell through the 5 and 4% benchmarks. Could be it’s only after they reached a level below 4% ... that they have been disposing of the rest on the open market and so legally requiring a TR1 for going below 3%.

What was the date on that email ... before or after the agm? GS disposed of 10 million prior the AGM. It’s possible they were transferred, as stated in the email, but the rest have/are being sold on the open market, requiring the notification due to dropping through the 3% benchmark.

jogj99... the RNS was issued due to the requirements to do so under the U.K. disclosure rules, the selling hasn't stopped since the 3% threshold was breached, so doubtful they have finished.

How do you buy into a private company based in Singapore that is marked as ‘struck off’ in March 2019?

It could be that GS have been given no options... and have in fact been ‘diplomatically’ forced into a disposal by FM... maybe under the sentence of death for crimes for which it has been agreed will not be be made public if they ‘pay’ and accept the ‘fine’ of the huge losses they have accrued!

Given the top prices they paid to get in ... and showing an incredibly strong determination to get rid at the phenomenally lowest sp levels available, is not even remotely credible.

Even in the event of the complete absence of ANY of the projected growth from energy storage happening ... no institution would dream of voluntarily accepting these losses at this stage of the companies general OR global Vandium/steel business cycle. Imo

Uksteveg posted yesterday that it could have been GS that voted against the re-election of the two retiring directors (Watson and Friedland) at the last agm. The 49 million votes cast against those directors seems about the right GS voting rights size at that time. What reason would GS have for voting against two long standing directors? They failed of course and the two directors were duly re-elected

But could it be that GS had in mind putting their own candidates forward for election in order to gain some influence on the BOD’s decision making activities?
Have they been bailing because there there was some grand design behind their original reasons to invest in BMN.... which has been thwarted?
