Sportswear retailer JD Sports confirmed Monday it had acquired an 8.3% stake in Footasylum, but said the move was not part of a plan to make an offer for the high-street footwear retailer.

JD Sports had acquired the stake in Footasylum for investment purposes and said it was prepared to acquire up to an aggregate interest of 29.9%.

Footasylum rose more than 70%, while JP sports was up 1%.

At 9:16am:

(LON:JD.) JD Sports Fashion PLC share price was +7.35p at 456.75p
