not sure if you're LTI's Minder, I've never engaged with you before, so not sure why you're so keen on my thoughts and comments. Buy Backs........
They allow companies to re-issue share awards when times are good, shareholders don't bat an eye lid, because times are good.
I'm not totally against Buybacks, never said I was. They are needed, because companies keep awarding more shares out. A Special Divi, is considerably more rewarding in most cases. I'd be a Pig in poop if I saw more Special Divi's ( To REALLY reward and create share holder value ), along with smaller Buy Backs.
My belief would be no change, or minimal to SP's, take a look at BP as an example, being at the lower range for a few years ( Easily £1.00 away from where it should be ) but they've spent a big chunk on BB.. That money has been well spent hasn't it
