Menzies Aviation reinforces commitment to improving gender diversity with new targets
06/10/21
Menzies Aviation, the global aviation logistics specialist, reinforces its commitment to improving gender diversity by announcing new targets focused on increasing the representation of women in leadership roles and improving diversity across its business.
Menzies is aiming for at least 40% of middle leadership roles in the company to be occupied by women by 2033, its 200th anniversary, and 25% of senior leadership roles by 2025, in line with the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) 25by2025 campaign.
As part of Menzies’ commitment to improving diversity and sustainability, the company has joined the United Nations Global Compact and committed to aligning strategies and operations with ten universal principles on human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption. Menzies will report progress to the UN across these areas annually. As a signatory, Menzies is taking part in the UN’s Target Gender Equality accelerator programme to advance women’s representation and leadership across the business.
Menzies has made progress over the past year in increasing the number of women in middle leadership roles, who currently represent 32% of those positions. In the UK cargo business for example, women now hold 45% of operational management roles.
There has also been encouraging growth in the number of women taking on ground handling roles, with our Australia and New Zealand teams achieving notable success by doubling the number of women working as ramp agents . This follows Menzies’ pledge to recruit 120 female ramp agents across the two countries during 2021. There are now 97 women employed as ramp agents, with 30 of those employees also working shifts on passenger check-in.
The Covid-19 pandemic presented an opportunity for employees to upskill and move into different areas of the business. This has led to an increase in women taking on ramp agent roles. Pelin Telci, who transferred from the passenger team to the baggage room and ramp department at Melbourne Airport commented on her new role: “The job was hard to start with, however after a while you get used to the lifting. I’m not saying it’s for every woman, but it is an avenue I can recommend, especially if you enjoy varied tasks.”
Natalie Eagle has worked for Menzies for one year at Brisbane Airport and was initially hesitant to join the ramp team due to the lack of diversity. She said: “I am so glad I didn’t let anxiety stop me from stepping out of my comfort zone and learning a new skill set, and I would encourage other women to do the same no matter what role it is because you’ll be so proud of yourself for doing it, plus you’ll never know if it’s for you until you try it.”
Juliet Thomson, Executive Vice President – People, Menzies Aviation, said: “At Menzies, we are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive organisation. The aviation industry has always been ma

The joint venture has added three new countries to Menzies’ portfolio, creating a strong foothold in Central America to develop its product lines across the region.

Overall, the contracts will see Menzies handle c8,000 flights and c6,500 tonnes of cargo per annum at a total of 10 locations for Virgin Australia.
These new contracts represent a significant expansion of Menzies’ operations in the Australian market and build on the recent wins with Qantas and Jetstar.

Menzies’ new Los Angeles cargo facility provides room for growth
13/07/21
Menzies Aviation, the global aviation logistics specialist, has expanded its cargo facilities by 40% at Los Angeles Airport (“LAX”) with the addition of a new warehouse. The new off-airport warehouse facility, which opened this month, will handle import cargo whilst an existing on-airport facility will continue to handle predominantly exports through one of the United States’ busiest airports. Menzies also has a third warehouse facility, which is off-airport and operated by Air Menzies International.
The dedicated import and export warehouse facilities more than doubles Menzies’ truck door capacity and in conjunction with new and efficient operating procedures for truck access will significantly enhance the customer experience. Menzies also has its own inter-terminal transport which keeps freight moving airside to landside.
With almost double the space and in recognition of significant market growth in LAX, Menzies can significantly expand its cargo operations and the new facility will provide existing airline customers with the warehouse capacity required to grow. Supported by a team of over 200 Menzies employees, all three facilities are custom bonded and collectively have the capacity to handle over 130,000 tonnes each year.
As well as upgrading existing cargo facilities, Menzies is expanding into new locations. The Americas is a region that has particular focus on this growth plan and following the successful launch of cargo operations in Miami earlier this year more is planned. Its cargo network now covers 53 locations across the globe.
Menzies Cargo progresses with new CEIV Pharma accreditation
06/07/21
Menzies Aviation, the global aviation logistics specialist, is delighted to announce that its cargo operations have received a further Center of Excellence of Independent Validators for Pharmaceutical Logistics accreditation (“CEIV Pharma”) as recognised by IATA. This accreditation is for Menzies’ Melbourne base and marks the Company’s second accreditation in Australia. The accreditation is a formal endorsement to safely handle pharmaceuticals transported from all over the world into Melbourne.
Only last month, Menzies’ Sydney base became the first Handling Agent in the Oceania region to achieve CEIV Pharma. The accreditation is significant for Menzies, as the IATA CEIV Pharma underlines Menzies’ capabilities for handling high-value, time sensitive, and temperature-controlled pharmaceutical products with speed, consistency and efficiency. This achievement is particularly important, as Melbourne is Menzies’ second largest cargo operation in the Oceania & South East Asia network.
With a team of 100 employees, the base handles annual throughputs of over 100,000 tonnes of cargo from key partner airlines, and the certification represents an exciting opportunity for potential future expansion of operations in the region. Moreover, the accreditation demonstrates Menzies’ commitment to offering the highest standards of handling pharmaceuticals and vaccines in the region, which is particularly important given the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Menzies continues to develop its air cargo services operations globally and is focusing on achieving CEIV Pharma certification in more bases to strengthen its supply chain. Melbourne is the second station to be certified globally, with upcoming certifications expected in London Heathrow, and Amsterdam as they near conclusion of the process. As the certification seeks to minimise product loss attributed to handling and environmental factors during transport, it will showcase Menzies’ best in class handling practices globally.

The medical people will always be in high esteem over any political figure and they do not get the credit they deserve.
Hats off to everything they have done and love and peace to every family who has been affected by this terrible pandemic.
We are all so very lucky to be here and move on with our lives and our thoughts must always be for the ones that lost their lives and the ones that are still being affected. So to those who feel they are having a bad time just spare a thought for the ones who are not here to have ANY time !! :-)
