RE: Electric cars8 Sep 2018 12:37
Flairboom, I have no problems with my CAPS, As I was highlighting the irony, of the "Creme Egg egg" incident, which obviously went over your head? Also the "NOT", is posted in CAPS, on the one and only charger point in our town! The others were to highlight, where is the Govt going to get the huge fuel and VAT revenue, from lost diesel and petrol sales, which you have not included in your answer. Now down to costs, servicing is the same intervals as normal combustion cars, however also quoted is 4,500 pounds for replacement batteries, if you do not charge as is recommended, Oh, and tyre wear, is a particular issue. Back to servicing, I have a Merc Sports, which I have had for 10 years, with only 19,400 miles on the clock. Due to my work, It is more SORN'd (I suppose you will critic for the CAPS??)than on the road. I have spoken to Merc, about if this had been an electric car, they could not guaranteed that the battery's would last being left for long periods. Now this came about as I used to be away, 4 weeks, come back, bats flat. Merc, have stated that with all their security systems, about two weeks is the max, uncharged! Also for an electric car service, I would have to do a round rip of 80 miles! There are pros and cons, I have no doubt, but out here in the "sticks", there is little if NO incentive, and lets just wait until we have a really good winter and see how they perform traction wise, in a good couple of feet of snow, that we get in my home area? I also have a Ren Scenic Turbo diesel, which I have had for 11 years, and just only now coming up for its third service, averaging 62 miles to the gallon, and on longer journeys 76 miles to the gallon. Cannot see how an electric car can be cheaper to run than that, and never failed me in winter snowy conditions. Amazing that we are debating on this, when invested in an oil company, for a financial return, rather than electric car manufacturers?
