Chinese company examines lithium claims in Zimbabwe
A Chinese mining company is currently reviewing Premier African Minerals' lithium claims in the east of the country with the aim of preparing a formal takeover bid. The claims are located in the eastern region of the country. Premier African Minerals retains a 50 per cent interest in the Mutare Lithium Project, while Li3 Lithium holds the remaining 50 per cent.
The lithium company, which operates mining operations at the Fort Rixon lithium mine in Matabeleland South Province, announced its intention to explore alternative options to unlock the value and potential of the Turwi Gold Project. The acquisition of the Turwi Gold Project included an earn-in of US$250,000 for operational control and a 50 per cent interest in the gold exploration project in south-eastern Zimbabwe.
The potential acquisition of Premier African Minerals' lithium claims by a Chinese mining company has attracted considerable interest in the industry.
The partnership between Premier African Minerals and Li3 Lithium at the Mutare Lithium Project represents a strategic alliance focused on maximising the project's potential.
The company's commitment to pursuing various opportunities, including the Turwi Gold Project, underscores its commitment to value creation and capitalising on the growth prospects in the region's mineral-rich landscape. In its annual report for the year ending 31 December 2023, chief executive George Roach said an unnamed major Chinese company was assessing the claims.
"We have previously referred to our claims in the eastern part of Zimbabwe and are pleased to advise that these claims are currently under consideration by a major Chinese mining company which has indicated its intention to make a formal offer to acquire these properties," Mr Roach said under the strategic report. On the gold mine, he said, "Premier had taken operational control and 50 per cent of this gold exploration project in south-eastern Zimbabwe. However, Premier's current focus will be on Zulu. Premier will look at other alternative opportunities for release." the potential value and opportunities of the Turwi gold project.
