RE: MM,s manipulation27 Jan 2021 08:38
exeter guy ... in theory anyone can bid low on a share ( nt ) or offer less than the prevailing sp.In practice the MM's will ignore it unless its significant at which point some believe the sp will be walked down to facilitate the buy. The " dubious" aspect arises when company a has shares @ say 35p but wants more @ 29p it puts an offer in for two million @ 29 then also lends out shares to shorters knowing they will be sold and help the sp fall to their desired level. How often it happens is anyone's guess but my view is certain tweaks need making to the rules. The best way to level the field is if a time limit was set on large orders, ie after two or three days if an order is not filled completely it must be partially filled and logged and the remainder form part of a second order !!! Large lingering for days or weeks orders create a false impression of buy sell ratio and should be curtailed ( in my view )
