Touch modules using cover glass thinner than 0.5 mm with relatively low conductive materials and non-optimal microcontrollers have been difficult to implement due to low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and aliased touch events, resulting in unsatisfactory multi-touch performance. XSense, combined with 0.4mm or curved Corning Gorilla Glass, enables exceptional multi-touch sensor panels that are thin, light, and damage-resistant. “Our collaboration with Atmel accelerates the move toward thinner cover glass and enables the use of curved touchscreens for our customers designing next-generation applications,” said James Nagel, division vice president, Program Development, Corning Gorilla Glass, Corning Specialty Materials. “The toughness of 0.4mm and curved Gorilla Glass, coupled with the remarkable touch performance and flexibility of XSense® enables the most exciting consumer experience in the market today.” Who knows, but jury is out still. On XSense: You say that revenue has disappointed so far and the business is pulling down margins as a result. It appears that Asus, Atmel's first XSense customer, lost interest in the product very quickly, and HP is probably not far behind. So, how much revenue has XSense generated for Atmel since it was commercialized in 2012 and how many sensors have been shipped trough the end of March 2014? Found this from Richard X Roe's text- its is subjective- but is a view on Xsense... "Simple back-of-the-envelope calculations show that Atmel's XSense cost of manufacturing is not competitive with that of ITO sensors. An ASP of about $10 for a 10-inch sensor at 50% gross margin implies cost of manufacturing of about $10 per sqft, while ITO film and OGS sensors appear to be less than $8 per sqft, for sizes 15-inch diagonal or less. Since all the sensors shipments so far have been bundled with touch controllers, is Atmel giving away the sensors or the touch controllers for free?" Food for thought, Comptex & June 10th will tell...G.L.A
ASUS at ComputeX release: 'Transformer Book T300 Chi is a high-performance detachable notebook that comes with the world’s thinnest 12.5-inch tablet display, making it a perfect companion for mobile professionals who need to stay productive but also like to enjoy movies, music and games...It is thinner than most ultraportable laptops on the market today, and the detachable tablet is also the thinnest Intel Core-powered tablet at just 7.3mm thick.' Transformer Book T300 Chi features LTE support and is equipped with a 2560 x 1440 WQHD IPS display for stunningly detailed visuals. Here comes the thin screens, are we in one? Everything in the home will eventually be connected via wifi. Looks like Apple will control the software, making it easier for the hardware manufacturers to 'hook up' to the infrastructure! Imagine all those electrical devices in your home, your heating system, your lights, your kettle, your washing machine, dishwasher, even your bath, all using a wifi chip, connected and controlled through your phone/ipad. Phones and Ipad are just the beginning of wifi........it gets much bigger from here! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/apple/10857125/Apple-to-showcase-smart-home-software-at-conference.html.... LWRF the future looks bright, just a matter of time...
Just an observation: From PC MAG review Pro 3/ yesterday: 'Clearly Microsoft designed the system with notetaking in mind. The Surface Pen glides easily on the Gorilla Glass,' Also... 'The excellent 12-inch, 2,160-by-1,440-resolution screen is made of Gorilla Glass. It's a step up from the 1,920-by-1,080 resolution of the Surface Pro 2.' The writers reference to Gorilla Glass could just be generic, but maybe worth noting...GLA
Gocarlco, couldn't agree more.. This is what Carclo said in Jan..."we have seen competition in the market increase for all touch solutions, which is causing pricing pressure; while we expect developments in the touch sensor market to become clearer during 2014, this is likely to reduce coated film revenues and margins versus our previous estimates. The product capabilities of XSense are strong..." Ok, market is informed. It might, almost appear the more recent RNS warning of lower profits Y2015 was in fact some form of reassurance, that the corner had been turned (ie less than £5mill rev 2015), all clear then? In reflection the 2nd warning could've easily have awaited until June, as Lindon hightlight's with ElitePad 1000, the market is still in flux. So why do it? Maybe Carclo seem mistaken that the market-makers and Int-holders wont punish a 2nd warning as harshly? Carclo need to have a deep think. Time now for Carclo management to start flagging the positives- 130 and current market cap is far to low. My thoughts: 1, stop reproducing what Atmel say as face value (Xsense is in flux, its a work in progress, take a step back) wait a-while. 2, importantly start promoting the tech possibilities of Xsense & Carclo more widely, get out there and start doing some P.R in the industry, the city, tech shows, and with us, don't leave it all to Atmel. Carclo is still a great company but share holder value must be uppermost going forward. Roll up the sleeves...
Hurray, Peter is gone! Great news..
On FCA.org daily short registar, there are currently no shorts on Carclo, after nearly a years shorting. Maybe a small silver lining, also best not forget Xsense is still in play, albeit in Atmel's worldview, but Xsense has a factory, its works, people like H.P use it, the markets going to expand, a new season of commission will start next month. No small achivement.
Re: Consolidation, its not a dilution, more a numerical tidy up (See Pmg) it allow a already diluted stock to appear well, less diluted. A consolidated stock also can go the way of Fjet and be diluted more, but JSJS are moving towards marketing and orders so not likely. What is worth high lighting is the R&D, the core science. Warick Uni trail will signal the potential roll out for the tech home and the tech office. What sorts of company and what cap value would Jsjs have if it were in the hands of say Jon Bolton? Not £4m, more like Fadells Nest, x 10s. The JSJS tech works, its RF internet ready, they can see its potential in the US, and likeless soon over here. Condolidation will certainly help catch the eye.
Tony Fadell, CEO of Nest Labs (recently brought by Google for $3.2bn) says "Home appliances today are as bad mobile phones were before the Iphone". Nest currently has two products a smoke alarm and a thermostat. "These products are not dull" says Fadell. "On average people who use our products save 20% on their energy bills... Today thermostats are ugly unprogrammable switches." The next battle for tech compaines will be our homes... So it may be... JSJS, unknowingly have done all the R&D for some established home consumer tech company or some clever venture capitalist to T/O and mass market. Megaman and the renaming to LightWave does bode well, but surely its Mr JS & Mr JS's ongoing research at Warwick University and the IP that may well see the £4m cap company, with its great albeit unnoticed potential, being worth many many times more. .. Looking forward to consolidation.
