“Amapá Advances Sustainable Mining with Legal Security and Environmental Responsibility”
The new sustainable mining development model in the state of Amapá has been highlighted by the company Mina de Ferro do Amapá (MFA) and by the state government as an example of balancing economic growth with environmental preservation.
The Government of Amapá, through the State Secretariat for the Environment (SEMA), issued the Operating License (LO) for the company’s iron ore beneficiation plant located in Pedra Branca do Amapari and Serra do Navio. The measure allows the resumption of mining activities in the region with legal certainty and environmental responsibility.
The environmental license granted by SEMA came after years of studies, technical analyses, and legal procedures. According to the agency, the process complied with all current environmental requirements and included commitments to environmental compensation, degraded-area recovery, and social responsibility actions.
The project foresees the reactivation of important mining infrastructure in the state, including railways and port facilities, with the expectation of generating jobs, income, and strengthening the local economy.
“The resumption of mining operations represents an important milestone for Amapá. We are guaranteeing that economic development happens responsibly and sustainably,” stated representatives of the state government.
According to SEMA, the company must comply with strict environmental monitoring programs, including water quality control, vegetation recovery, waste management, and social monitoring in communities affected by the project.
The Secretary of the Environment emphasized that the operation will continue to be monitored closely by environmental authorities to ensure compliance with all licensing conditions.
Governor Clécio Luís stated that the authorization demonstrates the state’s commitment to attracting investment while maintaining environmental responsibility.
“Today we are delivering legal certainty to an enterprise that had been stalled for many years. Mining, when done correctly, can generate sustainable development and improve the quality of life for the population,” the governor said.
The MFA project is considered one of the main initiatives for economic recovery in the mining sector in Amapá, with expectations of attracting new investment and strengthening the industrial chain linked to mineral production in the state.
