TbT, was the original production forecast figure for zinc concentrate or metallic zinc? It is easy to get carried away and your post is timely. I have noted some people equating vanadium pentoxide with vanadium metal when doing fag packet calculations, but the oxide markets for a quarter of the price of the metal (which has fallen to nearly half its value compared to 4 months ago).
I am not trying to be gloomy. The project economics look fantastic to me, but some of the quoted figures for the sp movement over the next year are crazily optimistic and will only lead to disappointment.

I agree the diltion is considerable, but the proposed plan now advances Kabwe at a considerable rate. Previous to this, we were talking about Zinc then Lead then, as an afterthought vanadium. Now, if I read it right, we will be producing vanadium (well, vanadium pentoxide) this financial year. This is genuinely something new, as are all the permissions and waving of conditions which we all know can completely shaft a project and were lurking in the background.
I'm actually quite excited. In particular, is it not great that this horrific mess, together with its devastating polluting toll, is going to get cleaned up? If our company manage to achieve that, and I don't make a penny, it will still be a truly wothwhile outcome.

Just a quick follow up on 34Deg's interesting post. We will not be the only company to suffer from the power shortage. Arguably, the pain will be greater for the major's, with their power hungry mines and smelters. Will this impact the PoP, currently up 6% over the last 30 days?

Good points, 34. I can see the logic behind the sale of our smelters, but it's a shame we sold Power Alt!

I guess Mr and Mrs Neilson just wanted a bit of petty cash for their holiday! I don't think it represents any unhappiness with the fund, though if they were bullish about Pt it would have made sense to wait. Anyway, PoP up 6% this month and Pd holding around $1600 so our basket price must be looking healthy.

For what it's worth, I emailed sjohn@phronimoscap.com. and said I would support them, citing my holding (not a lot, I'm afraid.) Got a reply within 24 hours thanking me. If anyone feels they have a point, it would be worth doing the same.

I guess the 'repsonse' was the RNS dismissing Phronimos out of hand.

Thanks for posting this. The fact that a massive European wind farm project is targetting the production of green hydrogen for industrial is hugely significant. I fear that Pt will eventually be superseded by cheaper catalysts in fuel cells, but its use will continue for the time being, and substitutes in the cells which manufacture hydrogen are further down the line.
On top of this, people will eventually realise that modern diesels are green. The people who impose pollution levies on vehicles already acknowledge this.

I have little doubt that we have seen the bottom of the downturn in PoP.

As Mav says. Large scale, appropriately powered, double blind clinical trial showed our lupus drug was no superior to placebo. A much worse result than the market anticipated.

But:

The clinical end-points were super-rigorous. Subgroup analysis showed superiority in sero-positive patients. On-going open label and manage access studies will report later this year.

So

The huge drop was not inappropriate, but many here (myself included) think it was overdone.

You have a good point. Sylvania are much further down the road than we are - they have been at it for a while. Having said that, we have more strings to our bow and, hopefully, will be more buffered against swings in the price of any particular commodity. This should improve sentiment. I'm a bit worried we haven't had any trumpet blowing about fine chrome yet, but matbe they are waiting until the end of the quarter.

Good point. I am less than convinced by the RNS. I invested in Polo as I had made a number of poor decisions re commodity investment and I wanted someone who knew what they were doing to help me out. It turns out that my poor investment choices have not done nearly as badly as Mr Tang's dire record.

hi papa. Good point. The first 1,800,000 was clearly a buy. The second 1,800,000 buy was very close to the mid price. If it was a sell, that explains your query. Todays shenanigans is a mystery, however.

Good find BB. This is actually a very significant item of news. I'm sure there will be more in a similar vein to follow. Of course, fuel cell science is developing alternative catalysts to expensive platinum, but Pt will still be used in the foreseeable future (which, at my age, is the future I am interested in!).

It's been an absolute farce over on GCM today. However, there is obviously a seller. No one has any details about the 2013 'potential' sale (such as the buyer, the price or anything else). The apparent drop here today is much less than 9%, since yesterdays close was quoted at mid price and todays sp equates to the bid, with a 10% spread. I have commented on this anomaly previously.
