Have to say I hate the BBC (excepting the radio/ BBC 4) with a passion whom on the TV side roll out... past their sell by date repeats regularly, to keep the few still awake engaged.

I kept a log for over 3 months of my TV viewing habits. CH 4 News topped the list
(100%) followed by selected stuff on BBC 4, ITV4, More 4, Dave, Quest & Talking Pictures made up the rest.

If you had to take one film to a desert island which would it be? The book, album & food I have nailed down not sure about the film though (the hardest).

I give you Britain's richest MP who claimed £6.80 for a toilet seat and then £10.87 for a replacement soon after. WTF was he doing, reading a lads mag?

And heh...Mogadon Hunt claimed £1200 for spectacles and eye tests, Selous a Tory MP claimed £30 for quills for letterhead artwork...the list goes on as does the damage to the reputation of a Patliament unable to keep in check the members.

Currently our overworked under achieving representatives are claiming 22% more in tax payer funded expenses than at the height of duck house, moat cleaning crisis of 2009.

FFS i could jog along on £77k a year and have no need to claim sod all.

In a mrkt crash like the '87 one you want to be stuffed full of cash not equities.
The '87 crash came out of the blue yonder literally nobody was saying shares were over valued or that the economy was in dire straits or any other economic distress signal was saying "watch out".

This time, should one occur and we have been warned, global signals are flashing red so imo its better to be mostly in cash to enable you to pick up quality stocks going cheap.
As indeed they will. I remember the rout of the ftse 100 in '87 when selling was indiscriminate across the board, the good with the bad went down. It was pretty frightening I can tell you (my hdcp went from 2-9 by Y/E to make matters worse!)

As you well know nobody 'rings a bell' so being prudent, safeguarding your assets is priority one.
We're coming into the summer months traditionally a quiet time for mrkts, G was flat in '16 (87-94) oil $38-$49 but bucked the trend in '17 (66-140) oil $53-$58 & '18
(168-248) oil $73-$83...
that's a +54p av.
Should the trend cont in '19 that puts G at c.260 come Oct.

As a rule when the Jan effect has worn off returns are usually lower May through Sept so an ideal time to have a spring clean.
For sure it's a big decision if G is 70%+ of your assets and your avc is above 204
when biting the bullet might be too painful.
As lots of us are loathe to sell a poor performer believing times (the sp!) will improve we average down adding to a losing position.
Been there, done that and it bloody cost me. Perhaps you just stick your head in the sand and pray it blows over without too much damage. If time and cash is on your side you could ride it out.
Unfortunately not in my case now... though in '87 I had no option but to ride it out as I was fully invested with no cash back up, double bubble bad!

Now I have just a small position in G my main asset up the swanee (private Co) and stocks I have sold are flat to worse
in the main.
So not great as I'm unable to access cash in my blood thing due to some bloody directive from Europe (MIFID) which forbids trading in privately held shares even with a willing buyer! Ankwers!!

That I have had enough of the travails of G should concern nobody, that's my problem which probably won't be a popular consensus among most of you and I fully understand that and really should not offer my jaundiced view of G at al..

However,
I fear for those of you who have 'serious' money invested here (a recent poster saying he was balls deep) apologies for the inappropriate analogy... as I did back in the day, but be very sure in your own mind you are not gambling your pot in a last throw of the dice on a one trick pony.

As I have said for a few years now equities are becoming way too risky for Joe Public to invest his 'hard earned' in these chaotic mrkts, with the Eurozone almost at negative GDP (Ger & France) and the US heading south in manufacturing and the service sectors (Q1 growth revised down) which tanked global mrkts on Friday, not to mention the inverted yield curve (better to hold short dated treasuries than long) often a pointer to recessions.

So, we have mostly ridden the good times... ex G of course but remember the 'sell' button which imo is now very much the preffered option to preserve your capital....just in case.

To date world mrkts have ridden out the siren calls of doom 'n gloom always bouncing back from investor panic.
Will it continue and whose gonna be out the exit first, don't get caught in the rush.

Shudda sold before results which unfortunately are meaningless these days, poor or good the mrkt does the opposite of what you expect.
I'm annoyed with myself as I know this all too well with G, yet fall into the hope-trap for a better day scenario...outside take over hopes or the mrkt will come to its senses.

Could be the mrkt already has and sees more negatives (no gas) than positives down the line and that I find hard to credit.
Once again I sit here holding a losing position in a stock that by all rights should be a) better appreciated, b) trending higher on oil price gains & c) continuing great fcf through this year...18%+ of mrkt cap for goodness sake!
Resigned to hold for this year while I look for a stock with zero cash flow, huge debts and in an ultra competitive environment.

Talk of another vote of no confidence in Teacher is wide of the mark as she survived a vote on her leadership in Dec and cannot face another until 12 months have elapsed.

However several Tory Whips headed by Gordon Brady Chair of the '22 committee confronted her and called for her to quit as she had lost the trust of her back benches. Her response was not recorded but perhaps of the order of " be off with you boys redo your classwork"

With another poor performance in Brussels last night, EU leaders set the agenda for Britain's exit and sent her packing to patch up another deal to present to Parliament now dependent on Bercow agreeing their has been a substantial change to present to the Commons.

Threats of resignations are just that as most MPs are self serving and Teach has to deliver Brexit for the Tory party to survive or face the consequences.

The time for fiddling is long gone. Parliament burns awaiting a new deal, a referendum, revoking article 50 or 'her duff deal'
Meanwhile Corbin skulks in the shadows waiting for an opportune moment to change his mind again.
Showing leadership qualities that even Teach does not possess he walks out of a cross party meeting on Brexit strategy because Umunna and Soubry were attending.

Where are the leaders, those with fresh ideas?
May is history, Corbo is unelectable and if Gove the 'arch snitch' who backed Mays deal becomes Tory leader God help us.

A sensible way to view G going forward (see boyo post at 9.28 am). I have reined in my expectations for G for sometime now based on over optimism for the gas and Somalia which is all hot air atm. For mre to change my mind barrelage will have to increase substantially by Y/E which might underpin my sp forecast of 300. If I had a big holding here I'd def be looking to diversify and likely out of oils.

She's off to Brussels today seeking an extension to June 30 because her backbench MPs refused to vote for her deal and it was all their fault we're in this terrible mess!

That's leadership from supply teacher May... she blames the troops for her rotten deal. She will be working night and day to ramrod her deal through for the third time that's fraught with risk in a divided parliament.
This now seems her last chance as Tusk rejected her request for an unconditional extension and said they would grant a short extension if she wins support of MPs next week.
That significantly increases the chance of no deal and the end of her shambolic premiership.

FfS!! That cheapskate Williams just lost me £350. Leading 8-5 (best of 17) he blows the next 4 effn frames! He's bloody worse than G and that's pretty damn near impossible in my book.
