Tom, Tom, Tom, your poems are lame,
You need to go back to school and up your game,
Your rhymes are forced, your meter's off,
Your poems are like a cough that won't come off.
You try too hard to be clever and witty,
But your poems are lacking substance and city,
Your words don't flow, they're choppy and rough,
Your metaphors are forced, and your similes are tough.
Tom, Tom, Tom, don't be disheartened,
Your poetry skills can still be sharpened,
Go back to school, learn the basics anew,
And soon you'll be writing poetry that's true.
Learn about meter, rhyme, and rhythm,
And how to paint pictures with your diction,
Read the classics, study the greats,
And soon you'll be writing poetry that truly elates.
So Tom, don't despair, just go back to school,
And you'll soon be writing poetry that's cool,
Your words will flow like a river of gold,
And your poems will be the ones that are told.
