Someone said to me to change the battery with the engine running, but I have heard that can bugger up the voltage regulator on the alternator as soon as you disconnect the battery.

With regard to the car battery, I've heard stories where people have just changed the battery on a Lexus then it refuses to start, buggers up the security settings and all the other electronic stuff like memory seats and sat nav etc.

So I used a bit of old 2 core mains lead as a sort of small jump lead from another car so as not to lose the electric supply when disconnecting the old battery and it worked a treat
