U.S. Mint Halts Coin Output Just as Investors Demand More16 Apr 2020 07:31
Bloomberg) -- "The clamor for retail investors to get hold of precious-metals coins is about to get more urgent.
The U.S. Mint said Wednesday it’s temporally halting production at its West Point facility in New York because of the risk to employees from the coronavirus. The site makes gold, silver, platinum and palladium coins which are sold through a network of distributors. The shutdown comes as convulsive swings in financial markets spur a surge in demand among retail investors for precious metals as haven assets. Last month, the Mint said it sold out of American Eagle silver coins, while the gold coins it offers were snapped up in March at the fastest pace in over three years.
“The timing is awful,” said Everett Millman, a precious-metals specialist at Gainesville Coins in Florida. “It’s going to exacerbate the supply shortage” in the coin market when demand is soaring.
Premiums for gold coins are at 5%-10% over spot gold, compared with less than 1% in normal circumstances, said Millman. Gold for immediate delivery slipped 0.4% to $1,720.89 an ounce at 3:51 p.m. in New York.
The jump in coin sales, along with a record high this week for holdings in exchange-traded funds backed by gold, suggests buyers are seeking physical metal amid the turbulence in equities."
Personally, I don't want any JV for Scally tied in to a Haverion deal. Best outcome for shareholders would be to keep them separate. Same goes for PRE and Black hills
Ideal outcome, A N Other offers an acceptable JV on Scally at, for debate only, e.g, $100 mill for 50% in stages, then NC need to act, either match that offer, as per FR, or decline, that's their first refusal done.
Or NC match offer and bidding war can commence. Don't be too eager for a NC JV on Scally, let gold get well into $2k mark.
Many people use the 1p per moz to get a rough guide to value, but NC current Telfer dilemma kind of expands that number by a smidge, to the plus side for GGP.
This crude 1p example has been used since gold spot was approximately $1200 oz. Now closing in on $1800 oz, it's now fair to assume that 1.5p per moz should be the new crude rule of thumb, as a bare minimum.
Gold spot @ $2400 oz, moves the rule of thumb again, 2p per moz, still crude, but mouth watering.
So, do the math @ 20 moz.
And IF Scally comes in with Hav, both containing 20 moz, then there is your 60p, but a big IF.
Showing your dislike of BJ at a time like this is completely abhorrent.
This virus is the enemy of every man, woman and child. It doesn't do politics, race, colour, creed, age, social standing, religion . It does one thing, attacks your lungs to give you pneumonia.
IMO, this is a man made virus and has been engineered to kill, the people who sanctioned it, designed it and distributed it are enemies of mankind.
No one should use this very grave situation for our Prime Minister to vent your personal views of him. Those that do, should be deeply ashamed.
"The people doing it are basic, no real evidence based justifications"
There is every justification for expecting the CEO to update shareholders when he raised expectations. "Hopefully" or not, that's an expectation. All Im asking for is a farking update, but the sycophant club are out in force, defending his inactions.
"a podcast which is informal communications." Utter nonsense, you can't defend the indefensible. A public comment by the CEO is a formal comment, period.
So Dans expectations were end of Q1, by publicly announcing that, it raised shareholders expectations.
Now, if you raise shareholders expectations with a timeline and for whatever reason, fail to meet that timeline, then as a bare minimum, you must offer some form of explanation, failure in this regard would be treating your shareholders with utter contempt.
I was Sandeep Biswas, one of my overriding concerns, with all the public known knowns, would be Rio stepping in for the available 25% of Haverion. That would seriously throw the cat amongst the pigeons.
Unless of course, you have had a handshake with GH on such matter.
Very pertinent question, where is Mr serial ramper, extraordinaire ? Sold out I presume, waiting for lower entry. Very dangerous poster, beware, you've been warned.
