The latest Investing Matters Podcast episode featuring financial educator and author Jared Dillian has been released. Listen here.
A share I buy for dividends like this, I'd think maybe if I can bank 3-5 years divs by selling to consider it. This share has been all over the place and I sold some today, in the bad times after that methane article I was at a decent loss, so it does fluctuate a lot. Nice if it gets higher for all of us.
Yeh almost impossible, it seemed until about a few months ago. Everyone was trying to sell themselves as "big tech" when they were flavour of the month. Deliveroo, etc. Bringing you a lukewarm chinese takeaway on a bicycle, lol.
I'm not denying the flights stop once a month in Argentina. I was querying whether a new flight to Buenos Aeres (as stated in article) would be used by FI residents and bring about happy relations.
We've not had a latam flight in two years, I think the Brazil flight arrived about twice.
Argentina, no never been and never will.
I live in the Falkland Islands
You miss all the petty stuff the FI has to deal with.
LOL flight to Argentina. Haha nobody from the FI would ever get on it, they'll refuse to stamp your passport when you arrive then arrest you when you try to go home.
Can't see any of that stuff happening, I can't even imagine anyone here even suggesting it
Presumably the price difference with Moscow exchange is down to Moscow being unlikely to sanction their shares in some way.
Have to admit I sold out today, not a huge holding but happy to take a 40% profit overall. I think long term this may come really good, but I can't see it avoiding sanctions for ever.
Sorry to everyone who has lost out, I have bought and sold a few times here and genuinely thought I was being risk averse and would see some decent results and decent share increases.
Don't really think the RNS timing or tone really helps, reads like it's the end of the road. Surely the company has other stuff in the pipeline??
Got a message yesterday on freetrade saying I could sell my poly shares, but not buy any.
I've said this a few times I'm sure, not sure which board, might be Evrez. But this has got to be a long term punt for most people. It'll either be £10 in the future, or zero. I'd possibly say much better than evens it'll be the £10. So a worthwhile punt, probably more likely than most early oil explorers.
Better news on the cladding front, considerably less than first feared
I recall this happens a lot with this share, you'd think slight progress updates would generate a bit of momentum but they always seem to tank the share. I guess its because people are waiting for proper news that they're super rich, and these RNS demonstrate it's actually a fairly long and tedious process to drill for oil and get results, and we're a fair way from that RNS.
Surely most of us are playing a fairly long game, I get the price is so low it can bounce back quickly and fall quickly also, but presumably we are not really expecting a huge uplift whilst troops are shelling nuclear power plants? My hope is that dividends will still get paid, there will be peace in Ukraine and long term it'll be back where it was a couple of months ago. But can't see that happening in the short term.
Rising prices and a giant ore producer with few ties to Russia. Doing great here and my biggest holding. Mostly due to endless averaging down from my initial investment about a year ago.
Have to admit i do love a big dividend as well
Last time I owned these shares I bought at 14 quid and sold at 16. Prepared to take a punt at 3.75.
My thoughts would be he will make his point, destroy most of their military, withdraw back to the areas he has already earmarked as independent states, keep them forever and everyone will regard it as a win.
It's a terrible day for the market, I woke up and checked my account and knew immediately that Russia had invaded. People panic, I myself have seen pretty much all my gains this year wiped out. It's just a panic sell-off of all stocks, and over the coming days I imagine it will bounce back.
Are you really not going to buy your Mum a Mothers Day card because Russia invaded Ukraine?
Looking at some of these falls, I wish I had some loose cash to invest.
Covgas - we will pay for it ourselves, the government chipped in 3 million to double our mbs a year or so ago. I'm not watching Netflix in UHD I admit but it mostly works, and you've got to remember it's a pretty isolated place. It's come on leaps and bounds, is it what you'd get in London, nope, but it works. It's also my only real bill each month.
We don't have VAT to increase.
This isn't aimed at you, but people speak on here about the place and have clearly never been. it's an incredibly rich place, helped by the low living costs and that there isn't much to buy, as well as having a decent income for very few people. Hard to describe without seeing it for yourself.
Pension was frozen because we had negative inflation in the FI, had nothing to do with a lack of funds.
Place might be a little old fashioned, but I imagine you'd be pretty jealous of the facilities for the size.
Broadband is a bit naff and expensive, I'll admit. But we really don't need oil for that.
Just generally seems to be a bit more positivity about the tobacco stocks, which is good to see. Seems to be better press (motley fool admittedly) as good income stocks for inflation, not a year ago these were value traps of a soon to be dead industry.
What you've got here is a reliable dividend, in good times I guess share buybacks will support that 6% plus.
Happy with those results and after recent rises, quite pleased to see the share price being marginally up today. Bought all mine about £26, admittedly a small holding, held since last March. So well happy with the dividends received so far, a capital gain of 24%ish, and continuing dividends of 8% (based on my share price).
I wish all my investments had done this well, including the dividends and gains, my best investment.
23:11 Giving a contractor shares instead of cash is fundamentally the same thing, except I'd guess a contractor may be more likely to sell them.
Would have thought it was fairly inevitable regardless, that rig ain't free. Just be glad they might be issuing shares about 2p, instead of 1.5p.
So possibly not the worst time to do it.
