We’ve been working for The Body Shop as a main contractor since 2020 when we refurbished the Islington store, the first in the UK to feature the retailer’s new in-store customer experience – The Body Shop Workshop. We have since delivered the new concept in Bluewater and Liverpool ONE and have been appointed to the 2022 framework.
Overview
The Body Shop is a cosmetics company selling cruelty-free beauty products. With retail stores all over the world, the popular brand is a household name.
We started working with The Body Shop as a subcontractor on its Bond Street store a few years ago. Following the project’s success, we were appointed as principal contractor for its Islington refurbishment. Delivered in just three and a half weeks, the fast-track shopfit involved the strip out of its existing store, internal fit-out and new shop front and signage.
Utilising our in-house electrical team, we installed ceiling-mounted tracked lighting and product display spotlighting throughout the store. Our 10,000ft2 joinery workshop also manufactured and installed a small number of case goods for the store.
The Islington shop is one of the first in the UK to feature The Body Shop’s new customer experience, The Body Shop Workshop, which was rolled out across more of its stores in 2021 and will continue into 2022. Providing a central workspace and circular wash station, the workshop creates a space for customers to discuss and try on products in-store before purchasing.
Our Work
Our team, led by Steve Lazell, started on site 19 October 2020 and successfully handed the Islington store over to the client 11 November 2020. Despite being ready in under four weeks, The Body Shop’s reopening in Islington was delayed until 2 December 2020 due to the second national lockdown in England, enforced to control the spread of the COVID-19 virus. While construction activity was allowed to continue, unfortunately, retail stores were required to stay closed for a four-week period.
In order to keep our site operatives and the public safe, we erected hoarding around the front of the store throughout the works. This approach allowed us to create a safe, controlled working environment. Temperature checks of workers were taken upon arrival, hand sanitiser was available on site, and we managed trade activity to ensure social distancing was possible at all times.
Starting with the strip out of the existing retail unit, we installed a new shopfront, signage, tiled features into timber flooring, panelling, rustic plaster, lighting and all new shelving. The project was successfully handed over in plenty of time for its reopening.
We are now part of the 2022 roll out programme of The Body Shop Workshops. A total of 50+ sites across the UK are set to be revamped within the framework, with nine of these schemes to be carried out by Thompsons
Bull Flag Pattern (67.13% Success)
Bull flag patterns appear similar to a horizontal parallel channel or downward parallel channel paired with a strong bullish vertical rise. When we draw the pattern, it looks like a flag on a pole, which is why they are called bull flags.
