The sps on many stocks right now do not reflect fundamentals, they reflect general sentiment.
As Carrington reminded us it's a very well run company, all you have to look at the performance for the previous 4-5 years before covid, and the sp reflected that over that entire period.

How do you know when the war will stop, when inflation will peak, when the fed will stop raising rates, or even when Nex will fill their bus staff shortages.

Once the markets start realising that the world's not going to end, that most businesses that provide essentials are still going to provide essentials, and companies are still going to be profitable but may have a reduced margin for 12-18 months, the markets will start forward looking again.
It's even getting to a point when a sell off day isn't actually hurting that much anymore, take today, not that bad on a sell off day.

Actually, this performed very bullishly in such a bearish market.
And imo, shorting is pure speculative gambling, hardly comparable to investing your own money in a worthwhile long term venture, whereby you have time to see out peaks and troughs. Unless of course you invest in a company that is in danger of going into administration.
What is shorting, borrowing shares without any investment, in the hope that you can buy them cheaper to then repay your debt.

The reason this has been hammered is the margin forecast is down to 7% for this year rising back to above where it was pre-pandemic from next year.
It was consistently 8% before paying decent dividends and an sp well over 300.
They gave just been cautious in their outlook statement.
Also the other reason is that 10% of the N America school service not fully running due to staff shortages. Well that suggests there are jobs available certainly with NEX in the US, not exactly signs of recession, doom and gloom that they're all forecasting.
What the markets aren't recognising is the 1 billion growth forecast over the next 5 years, ok this year growth will not reflect profit margin , but when posts are filled and wage inflationary issues are sorted, and the dividend is reinstated which is one of their primary cash allocation priorities, 170 will be seen as a bargain.
So my view is if I have sit underwater on this ( like I am with everything right now, for another 8 months or so, I will be rewarded next March.

I mean how much do people think they're going to make shorting this at 25p, it's not going lower than 22p if at all, so what's the point.

You're not exactly going to own mansions shorting cpi, you may well holding a large amount for another couple of years.

I think he's trying to say that the transformation is complete, debt will be significantly reduced, the company is in much better shape than before the rights issue at 97p, and at 25p the company is significantly undervalued but may take time for the city to acknowledge it.
He would end up being the laughing stock of the city if he next revealed that things were not moving as expected , or an equity raise is required.

It's not a case of quick buck for a lot of people who have been riding this through for almost 2 years now.
The realism that occurs to me is when you look at estimated revenue fir this year and compare to even 2018, its far off the mark, and will take substantial orders to get anywhere near.
So it's now dawning on me that this could take another 2-3 years to fully recover.
