Post period end

• Sale of the Clinical Lab to Cambridge Pathology BV completed on 18 July 2019 for a total consideration of £400,000. The sale will enable Novacyt to focus more closely on the expansion and value of its core products businesses, Primerdesign and Lab21 Products. A second deferred payment of £100k was received in September as expected

• The Company continues to look for a buyer(s) of its NOVAprep® business unit but is also taking steps to close the remaining business by the end of 2019 in the event a sale has not completed. All customers, suppliers and employees have been informed of the decision, and the Company will work sensitively and diligently to support all those who will be impacted by this decision. Due to significantly reduced costs, the liquidation of certain assets and an increase in consumables sales orders, the negative cash flow impact on the business unit will be greatly reduced with the potential for it to generate cash for the Group during the second half of 2019

With sufficient working capital, we will continue to build on the robust operational performance of our Primerdesign and Lab21 Products business units, which delivered record sales growth in a number of territories in H1.

Paris, France and Camberley, UK - 26 September 2019 - Novacyt (ALTERNEXT: ALNOV; AIM: NCYT), an international specialist in clinical diagnostics, today announces unaudited results for the six months ended 30 June 2019.



Financial highlights

• Consolidated unaudited Group revenue of €7.2m, an increase of 12% (11% CER) compared to the restated revenues for H1 2018 of €6.4m

o Primerdesign revenue increased 8% (7% CER) to €3.3m

o Lab21 revenue increased 17% (16% CER) to €4.0m as a result of the incremental revenue from the Omega ID acquisition in June 2018

• Group gross margin remained strong at 63%, a reduction of 2% from H1 2018, due to the anticipated dilutive gross margin effect of the Omega ID revenue streams. On a like-for-like pro forma basis (excluding Omega ID) gross margin increased by 3% year on year to 68%

• Primerdesign gross margin improved year-on-year by 2% to 87%, demonstrating the significant current and potential future value of this business unit to the Group

• Group EBITDA profititability of €0.2m in H1 2019 versus a €0.1m loss in H1 2018

• Operating loss reduced by €0.1m to €0.7m despite incremental Omega ID amortisation of €0.1m

• Omega ID contributed a strong EBITDA profit of 19% in H1 2019 and synergies have been identified to further improve gross margin and EBITDA profitability

• Novacyt held €0.6m in cash and cash equivalents at the end of 30 June 2019

• Working capital constraints in second and third quarters will result in consolidated revenue and EBITDA below market expectations for the full year but ahead of the EBITDA for the prior year.



NOVAprep® revenues are excluded, reflecting the strategic decision to sell the division, as announced on 11 December 2018. Group revenue includes the Clinical Lab (€0.3m) for the first half of the year, which was subsequently sold on 18 July 2019.

*NOVAprepâ:operates out of offices based in Ve ´ lizy-Villacoublay, Paris, France, where sales,order management, quality and research and development functions are based. A total of sixpeople are based at this location. Additional sales management operate in the UK and inChina; and*Lab21:operates out of facilities located in Milton (near Cambridge), Camberley (Surrey) andBridport (Dorset), all in the United Kingdom. All facilities combine laboratory with office space.The Camberley facility is currently being fully refitted to become state-of-the-art, withincreased manufacturing capacity and capabilities that could, if needed, support the doublingof sales of Lab21, as well as provide expansion space for NOVAprepâ. The refittingcontinues to progress well and is on target for completion by end of 2017. Once complete,Camberley is also expected to have warehouse and cold storage capabilities. Bridport whichoffers R&D, tech support, production and warehouse & storage, which was partly refurbishedin 2016. Some 70 employees work across these facilities.

Markets and competitionThe Group’s microbiology, serology and haematology products are well established and are mainlyused in screening and confirmatory diagnostics in developing markets. The total addressablemarket is estimated by the Directors to be approximatelye11.7 billion per annum and growing at arate of approximately 5.4 per cent. per annum. While the technology used in this business is wellestablished, there is considerable product ‘know-how’ at Lab21 and the Directors consider itsmarket position to be well protected, with high barriers to entry due to regulatory hurdles and thestrength of its individual registered brands.Growth strategyAs Lab21 is a cash generative business at the operational level, the Group intends to limitsignificant new investment into the division, instead focusing funds to drive growth in Primerdesignand NOVAprepâ. However, the Directors believe that there are significant operational synergies tobenefit the Group’s other business units, such as manufacturing, procurement and distributionsynergies, which continue to be explored. The business as a whole has established a globalnetwork of more than 300 distributors and each unit’s contacts can be used to benefit other partsof the business.

Market and competitionNOVAprepâ’s focus is currently on the cervical cancer screening market (worth approximatelye2.9 billion per annum and growing at approximately 6.3 per cent. per annum) and HPV moleculartesting (an approximatelye0.6 billion per annum of addressable market, growing at approximately8.3 per cent. per annum).4The Directors believe that a future market opportunity in other non-gynaecological cancers could address a market worth an estimatede1.7 billion per annum andcurrently growing at approximately 6.5 per cent. per annum.Several cancers such as cervical cancer, anal cancer and oropharyngeal cancer are known to becaused by HPV infections. Today, more than 200 related viruses are known and more than 40HPV types can be spread through direct sexual contact from skin and mucous membranes ofinfected individuals to skin and mucous of their partners. Detection methods for abnormal cells inthe cervix include conventional PAP smearing and LBC. Major drivers of market growth are anincrease in HPV infection rates due to earlier sexual engagement, an increased life expectancy,technology advances and more government screening programmes across the globe.

NOVAprepâOverviewNOVAprepâis a whole cell collection, cell concentrator and storage device used in the Group’snext generation LBC technology platform. The technology is currently used principally for cervicalcancer screening and molecular HPV testing, but in the future, it has the potential to expand use into the diagnosis of non-gynaecological cancers. Focused solely on indirect sales channels, thedivision’s main growth is currently experienced in Asia Pacific, including China, Middle East andEastern Europe.ProductsNOVAprepâ’s two main revenue product categories are: (i) one-off sales of NOVAprepâinstruments, with indicative prices per unit of eithere23,400 ore51,500 dependent on size; and,(ii) the consumable NOVAprepâvial, with indicative prices per vial of betweene2.00 ande3.00.Typically, a customer would be expected to purchase one, or a small number of instruments andthen repeat purchase the vials that are used alongside the instruments to test individual patientsamples.
