Anyone else get absolutely shafted on the exchange rate?

by my calculations they translated USD to GBP at approximately 1.66!

The £94M dividend would have equated to the 16.85 pence per share received last year.

My read of that section is therefore that both dividends (the 5.6 this Friday and the 11.25 later in the year) will be cut by 50% to help fund this acquisition.

Clearly the market doesn't like it much given the drop, however it is possible a lot of this is automated sell offs due to the announcement of a dividend cut, rather than a review of the proposed acquisition.

I work for a small - mid-size business and we literally CAN'T prepare as it's still unknown what terms we're leaving on.

We're still waiting on finding out if it's no deal / some kind of deal / whole thing gets canned, and we can't prepare for all 3 at once.

I'm in the same boat as you with II,

it's why I asked Mike who he sold his shares with earlier.

I believe HL can trade them, though not 100% on that - thinking of opening another ISA with them and transferring the shares tbh.

If anyone has better ideas out there I'd love to hear them.

railride - while I agree the bank account SHOULD be the first point of audit, even that is never a guarantee - look at Patisserie Valerie and their £10m off the books overdraft.

it does indeed suggest a waiting period:

"The Company has advised that the Portage Biotech shares will be dispatched to us in certificated form, on or after the 15th January 2019. Upon receipt of the certificates, we will arrange to deposit the these with our International custodian to allow you to trade your new shares freely. However, please note that cross bordering the Portage Biotech shares may take up to 6 weeks from receipt of the certificates."

The "up to 6 weeks from receipt" part is clearly the key here.

My local Tesco selling petrol at 128 - fairly sure that 22p difference won't be going to the govt, but sitting with the petrol station owner, whoever they may be.

the market has decided the special is unsustainable and so is effectively ignoring it entirely, therefore treating this share as though it has a div of around 4.5p p.a.

as mentioned by myself and others on here, would be happier if they canned the 'special' and just raised both the regular dividends by the same amount instead, and I feel the market would react strongly to such a move.

Till then, we seem to be languishing. let's see what the update next week brings.

Morning Gizzajob, you are correct in your presumption, the yield excludes special dividends. it's one of the reasons I keep hoping TW. stop calling it a special and just bump the regular dividends by the same level - the market seems to ignore specials, even though TW. have had a 'special' for past several years. Still, means that TW. appears to slip under the radar of many as a result.

Afternoon all, entirely wild speculation on my part, but does anyone else think perhaps that the run of terrible weather over the winter/spring is having a general affect on sentiment towards builders? For all that we like to pretend otherwise, personal sentiment can be a major factor in investment decisions, and the likes of the Beast from the East causing unexpected days off work/delays to building could potentially be a background issue? Just a wild bit of musing while on my lunch break today. GLA

Nige, hi, I agree wholeheartedly, in fact after reading (and agreeing with) your discussions/points on here over past few months I jumped into PSN as well myself, now holding a similar value in both there and TW.

Legal and General have just announced they bought out the remaining 52% of CALA homes, so it's now entirely owned by them. Stating they believe in strong prospects for the housebuilding market in the UK. Cost them just over �300m So clearly there are others apart from Nige who still believe the building sector in UK has a way to go.

at this price I'm tempted to re-mortgage the house just to pile in some more..... Still agree with other posters that they need to lose the 'special' dividend and just up the regular dividends. The market hates specials as they can be cancelled.
