RE: This is not about hope......Read the RNSs........9 Jul 2025 22:06
Just noticed the ceo of superbio ai put an interesting article up on linked in earlier which RJ has commented on about a breakthrough!
𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗘𝘃𝗼‑𝗖𝗥𝗜𝗦𝗣𝗥: 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗖𝗥𝗜𝗦𝗣𝗥 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻, 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘀𝗲𝗿.
We’ve built a new Superbio app that lets you explore and generate CRISPR‑Cas systems with Evo‑1-8k-CRISPR—directly from your browser or via API: https://lnkd.in/gu-MmCd3
𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀:
Evo-1 is a DNA foundation model trained on 2.7 million microbial and phage genomes to learn the rules of genomics organization, capable of generating lifelike genomic loci. Evo-1-8k-CRISPR is fine-tuned specifically on CRISPR-Cas loci, enabling the generation of novel Cas9, Cas12, and Cas13-like orthologs. This unlocks an exciting new possibility for molecular design: de novo generation of functional new gene editing systems.
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆:
- Generate novel genomic CRISPR‑Cas loci sequences (Shown in https://lnkd.in/g-iGpJd5 by Eric Nguyen et al. to have lab-validated endonuclease activity)
- Work in an intuitive web interface or simple Python API
- Get started with just a prompt—no setup required
𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝘄𝗲'𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱:
- 𝘉𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘵 𝘰𝘯 𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘬𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘢𝘳𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 (StripedHyena + ~7B params for Evo-1-8k-CRISPR, with single-nucleotide resolution)
- 𝘚𝘢𝘧𝘦𝘨𝘶𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘺 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘯: training data excludes the human virome, meaning you can explore the prokaryotic sequence space safely
- 𝘙𝘦𝘢𝘭 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘵 𝘢𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘥: it’s a major leap towards engineering even more complex genetic loci, and even life itself
Still early days, but the model’s capacity to learn RNA-protein co-evolution opens up some wild new therapeutic directions!
