Theaky, that's a very interesting question but I'm not sure how BP asset value can be accurately determined at this point in time. We have invested billions in green energy projects but its too early to assess the real worth of some of these assets. Then there is the matter of Rosneft which is all up in the air, does it have a value that we can realise at a future point ? Then there is the gom debt which will continue to cost about $1BN annually for another 10 years. What have we got that ExxonMobil need that they would pay a premium for in excess of £5....

Hi Spights, I don't see that as a negative ideally if the parameters for oil were set between 80 and 100 that would be ideal.

Good morning Meoryou,Spights and all.
Never say never but its difficult to see a takeover in short term. There are unresolved factors that may make BP unattractive to a suited, for example what will be the outcome of the russian assets, and there is still a multi billion debt from gom tragedy to be paid down.
However, it would be very interesting to see what the level of offer might be.

Yes all good thanks just been really busy with ****er Spaniel to vets, leak in master bathroom and acting as pro bond surveyor for grand daughter who is in the process of buying her first home, so been a tad preoccupied this morning. All quiet on the share price again today. Meoryou I think you are correct about the dividend impacting this and we definitely need to see a marked uplift on 7th Feb. Best wishes to all

Hi Meoryou, I rarely am concerned about the share price on a day to day basis vecause I have no plans to sell anytime soon, but I am somewhat perplexed by the current drag, it seems every time we move in excess of 480 we get beaten back again. Not sure what the reason is but it would be nice if they took a more positive approach to the dividend when they report full year results on 7th Feb. Just maybe that will energise the sp.

Under Bernard's leadership BP has become a massively diversified business. Hardly a day goes by where we don't read about yet another major project which is wonderful.

Good morning Zac and Slickmongoose., if they bought back 1.5 million shares for cancellation they will not need to service that tranch of shares with dividends which will save roughly £75m per quarter. The rest is purported to be returning value to shareholders. I'm all in favour of debt reduction in all forms, but I've never really considered this process to be returning tangible value to shareholders. The dividend policy was set some time ago and as another poster rightly pointed out yesterday the increment in amount paid is reviewed by the board annually I think at end if q2.

Good to see BP have bought back over 10 million shares today while price us subdued, also further welcome news, Brent is back over $86 so maybe not another gloomy day tomorrow. Good evening everyone
