Following a visit to Kareevlei on 9th November 2021 by South Africa's Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (the 'DMRE'), Kareevlei was issued with a Section 54 notice in terms of the Mine Health and Safety Act (given in the event of a deemed safety breach) on the evening of 11th November 2021. Accordingly, operations at the mine have been stopped pending resolution of the issues identified by the DMRE. The DMRE has visited the operation regularly, including during the Company's current expansion project, with no previous suggestion of this outcome

Working with the French company at Venus is Impact Oil & Gas. The company’s Phil Birch said he was “incredibly confident” on the well, predicting it could hold 1.5-2 billion barrels.

Shell is also warming up to return to frontier drilling. The company’s exploration manager for Africa, Ben Mee, said it will drill the Graff-1 off Namibia this year. The company is also playing an important role in the Jaca-1, off Sao Tome & Principe, although Galp is the operator.

“These could be transformational for Namibia and Sao Tome and potential new heartlands for Shell.”

The spudding of the appraisal well is expected later this week.

Global has used part of the proceeds raised over the last year to map the source rock from those wells into its licence, using the latest technology, and has now started a study to calculate the volume of oil likely generated and available to migrate into Global's prospects and leads.
