Mama Mia's was above the arches restaurants along the seafront in Westcliffe in Shore field road.

The one in Leigh bottom of the hill was originally called "Oscars"

Founded in 1966, Oscar's restaurant, in Leigh Hill, Leigh, said goodbye to its final guest on New Year's Eve.

Peter Moore, Oscar's manager, said: "It was the end of an era but we went out on a high."

The building, dating from 1901, will now be converted into flats, catering for the vast demand for residential property in the area. The property was largely residential before the restaurant took over 40 years ago.

Dennis Hill, Oscar's founder, said: "It's hard to believe now, but in those days nobody wanted to live there."
Oscar's was credited with putting Southend on the gastronomic map, earning a place in the Good Food Guide, and attracting bookings from as far away as New York and Paris. It also became the venue of choice for many local organisations.

Mr Hill said: "One of our greatest accolades was that the south Essex pub landladies, who know a thing or two about catering if anyone does, chose to hold their lunches with us."

Talk Of The South, before it was shortened, yes went there in the late 1970s Lou Manzi's the owner was very good friends with Oliva Newton-John and she was to be seen there.

In the early years, it was always live bands and very good, there was laterally Mr, Bs, and up just off the high st, 'The Penny Farthing', that changed into Dick Devigne's 'Rains' there was 'Camelion' on the seafront, 'Zivargos' in the Hammerson shopping precinct Victoria Circus... nearly all gone and just good memories along with 'chicken-in-a-basket' .. LoL
Are you recalling 'Churchills' up the high street called something else in the past...

I think we can all concur with those statements and again if you have no immediate need for cash, don't sell out cheap, which is what you are doing by selling at 30p...

It has now been stated that Tracker funds HAVE to buy-in by the 30th of November, why let them get in on the cheap by selling your shares for peanuts now against a higher price later on...

But it makes no sense to me to sell out on the cheap, good stocks like this are as rare as hen's teeth in my opinion!

Steve, you are so right, haha, yes I splashed the cash at the beginning of the first lockdown and went overboard, but the TV picture was fantastic, and no buyers remorse from me!
On filling in my Sony on line warranty, Sony offered me the chance to review the TV, I was so pleased with it I thought why not and did a review, my one, and only.

Haha, Cj62, you have me down to a tee, yep, currently in my navy blue boiler suit, and will turn my hand to anything, apart from plastering, I tried that, bloody useless :-)
I have in the past built a hovercraft, airboat, hydroplane, lot's of motorbike and car rebuilds, have Mig and Tig welders, lathes, and tools coming out of my ears to be fair, built a great workshop 30ft by 20ft .... always just liked mechanical things, now slowing down and want to put my feet up after getting the dreaded prostate cancer, just need EUA to pay out and then Becky can retire also...

So yes I am a bit eccentric in today's world I suppose you could say, or just old fashioned from the make do and mend mob...

Good news on the TV, it works fine, just assembling the 750kg hydraulic Engine crane that I fetched in from the workshop in the lounge (don't worry I put plenty of newspaper down to protect the carpet, don't want to annoy Becky) so I can lift it up onto the wall, due to Covid I cant have my mates round and it weighs around 72kg and is bloody huge! so I can take my time! :-)

Our only entrant for today was our own Thift8082, Bad luck, it was not to be!

It was a blue day...But not, in the normal sense!

All these large 100,000 sell trades, always just after a bit of a tick up in the share price to quell the rise its tracks, most unfair, no one wants to sell at 29p but when 30p comes along everyone bales! curses!
