Hi all,

The RNS notes, '...to advance SDC-1801 into clinical development in autoimmune diseases, including the immune overreaction to Covid-19 and other viral infections...' - anyone think this may mean we're not going the AGILE route?

As some have speculated, if our compound failed within AGILE that might mean a major setback for other uses therefore it may be better not to involve the government programme. Any thoughts?

Is there a reason why we are not on the list of studies? I imagine the simplest answer would be we are on a list of studies, just not the one you looked at. Our recent study relates to a grant awarded to Sareum through the Innovate UK Sustainable Innovation Fund for projects that address and mitigate the health, social, cultural and environmental impacts of the Covid-19 outbreak.

AGILE is not the ultimate goal, it is only one possibility. The 1/7/21 RNS states (with regard to funding & progress), "...this could include the UK government's AGILE clinical development platform, which was established to fund Phase 1 trials and fast-track the development of potentially ground-breaking Covid-19 treatments. These activities are expected to run in parallel with the broader SDC-1801 development plan targeting autoimmune diseases. We look forward to providing updates on our progress as we reach key milestones in the development of SDC-1801.

What I'd infer from all of this is we have options. As Tarantino might say, 'we all just need to chill the **** out and be like little Fonzies'.

Wasn't it just a couple of years ago that the Chinese premier declared greed is good? You can either learn to deal with a wealthy and powerful nation or pretend they don't exist.

Hi Potnak - I used to go out with a girl who suffered with CFS and some time later I recall reading the condition is possibly caused by a person's gut biome. The report suggested just a small piece of high cocoa (70%+) chocolate each day was very effective against the condition. I forget the particular compound within the chocolate but you might want to mention trying that to your friend if the CFS returns.

Should we enter AGILE and how does the funding work? Easy questions with tricky answers.

I've tried to find detail on what happens to a successful drug if it were funded by AGILE and answers are tough to find.

This page https://www.agiletrial.net/government-funding-boost-for-covid-19-drug-testing-platform/ led me to the National Institute for Health Research https://www.nihr.ac.uk/researchers/manage-your-funding/funded-research-into-covid-19.htm but I couldn't find anything with regard to who owns what if your drug is successful i.e. does GB Plc get a cut of profits?

One potential spanner in the AGILE works is this https://www.nihr.ac.uk/covid-19/prioritised-support-for-urgent-covid-19-research.htm where it states, 'Due to the drop in COVID-19 case numbers and significant progress with the vaccine roll-out, we are no longer accepting applications for studies to be designated as Urgent Public Health.'

So it may be better that we don't go the AGILE route and find other avenues to progress the compound.

It's a bit tricky to keep politics out of things when the PM (irrespective of their political leanings) makes a decision which may lead to the deaths of members of the public. Yes, individuals must act responsibly but have you ever tried to herd cats? As SAR are in the pharma world, such a high impact political decision clearly has a knock on effect with regard to the urgency required to get one of our compounds through trials and to market.

Also it's a tad hypocritical to say 'keep politics out of this' and '(we) must respect other peoples beliefs especially religion and politics' whilst also telling people to leave the country if they don't like the political landscape. It might be better to advise individuals to use their vote wisely.

Anyhoo, I'm reminded of what Alexei Sayle said when accused of being a champagne socialist, throwing his hands in the air, he declared, "champagne for everyone!".

Let's not get too wound up over things, it's only life and death.

Hi Madd, even if spectators had to prove a negative test before entry, when was the test taken? Who were they in contact with between testing and mingling with 140,000 for 3 days? F1 doesn't attract any of the hooligans you get with football (jeez, imagine what a F1 hooligan would be like!) but even with the best will in the world, false negatives from tests etc. will mean some will have the virus and they'll infect others.

Ahfam - I can see Boris declaring a lockdown u-turn but only once it's too late (and clearly it's already too late).

It's common knowledge he idolises Churchill and he'd love to have a minor war (you know, just a small one that we could possibly win) in order to experience a full Churchillian moment of victory. Covid is therefore the next best thing and so by declaring 'freedom', Boris is giving a two-fingered salute to the enemy. Churchill was a flawed man and Boris is no different. Once there is a public outcry over the deaths of the young, Boris will pull the biggest handbrake turn you've ever seen and full lockdown will ensue - Look! Boris is acting to save our children! Rejoice!

If anyone thinks I'm Boris-bashing without merit, look at the the man's career and actions and then judge.

Hi Steady - now here's a crazy idea: whilst reviewing our data & application for AGILE, the government's experts take a cursory glance at what else SAR have in the pipeline. They grasp the vast potential and the possible levels of income from all our compounds if they all come to fruition (and yes, it's a big if). Someone makes the suggestion to buy out SAR on behalf of the nation and GB Plc then on-licenses our compounds.

Think of all those billions in receipts hitting the Treasury and helping repay the monies spent on fighting the pandemic.

Win for shareholders. Win for taxpayers.
