Indeed. A lot of countries have banned it and to be honest more should. Half the chaos seen during March and the subsequent recovery wouldn't have happened around the world if no shorters.
They keep saying they provide liquidity... bull. Most shares have no problems of being bought or sold when there are no shorts open on them (only obscure AIM companies it can be hard to buy or sell as standard). I think if people want to bet against the market then they should be allowed, in a betting account where it has no effect on reality, but not by using shares of other people.
