People can get upset as they like; "blah, blah,blah". Smr is happening; no stopping it. Only 3% of nuclear waste is the stuff in yellow cans the uniformed get so upset about. Smr is old fission technique. ITER is biggest fusion project based in France. Break throughs being made but still generates less energy than consumed and decades off. Once RAB passes; which will quickly as cross party support; private investment UK government been courting will flood in. 16 sites RR identified mainly old nuclear sites so got connections to grid and largely local support. The Bill creates a framework for a Regulated Asset Base (RAB) model to be used. The RAB model is expected to allow new nuclear projects to be financed via private investors such as pension funds and insurers and reduce reliance on overseas investors. It would be funded by a charge on electricity suppliers, who are expected to pass the cost on to consumers.

It's sets up RAB funding model. Been consulted upon for couple of years; RR keen supporter of model. Basically a SMR developed can get paid as soon as project starts from electricity bills and doesn't have till wait to actual power is delivered onto grid. Reduces investment risk so a big plus

This could be a massive new development; geo-political need to curtail China leads to Indian having to invest. 5th gen fighter (with 6 gen upgrades/elements) jets either RR engines or French company. Decision overdue already. Navy also looking to RR engines. Hope that the geo-political situation pushes India to us and away from Russia. Macron is giving EDF (80% owned by French state) €1billion for SMR research. Yet EDF loaded with so much debt and massive delays on all their projects don't think their real RR competition. Now we out of EU we can direct state funds to RR for massive SMR speed up. The 2035 carbon free electricity grid is massive and only nuclear involvement can deliver. Sunak to set out UK aim to become net zero finance leader

As we've been reporting, today is finance day at the COP26 summit. The world's finance leaders will gather to discuss how we can afford the push to net zero.

Among them is UK Chancellor Rishi Sunak - who is due to speak at around 09:00 GMT.

We're expecting to hear him outline how UK companies will soon need to highlight how they plan to achieve net zero by the UK's target date of 2050.

Sunak will outline the move as part of a bid to make the UK the first net zero financial centre.

He will say advances have been made to "rewire the entire global financial system for net zero" under the UK's leadership of the conference.

Won't be smr news at all from cop26 directly.
