Try selling or buying the volume of shares funds do in a company this size and see what happens to the share price! Yes shorters are pushing the price down, but if this was a decent company there would be institutions on the other side buying, however currently there are not.

No manipulation just a company that cannot afford it's debt repayments over three years.

Same way you will continue to get a dividend in equities but if the value of the stock drops by more than your dividend then you are losing money.

Even if the coupon remains the same, the value of the bond will have decreased. Further decreases in the bond value is what they want to negate, they do this by shorting the equity.

Yes they should have done at 200 but maybe they like us didn't expect it to perform so badly the past year.

You might be right. The way I look at it is that the perceived risk of default has increased therefore, they want to offset the fall in the bond value by shorting the equity.

Normally you would buy a CDS as protection against your bond position, however if the CDS is not liquid I think its easier to hedge your credit exposure by shorting the equity.
