I believe you can offset tax liability with losses going back to and including the previous 4 years.

If you have exceeded your yearly tax free allowance you are a lucky person.
Sorry not very helpful comments but the way I understand it is anything over the allowance is subject to CGT at the usual rate, and you have to provide details of all trades and they will calculate what you owe.
Much easier not to exceed the tax free amount.
