The prime minister has signed a proposal to scrap 10 coal-fired power plants that were approved earlier.

"Our current plan is to generate between 10,000MW and 12,000MW of electricity from coal by 2030," the state minister said.

Nasrul said the coal-fired power plants are being constructed using "ultra-super critical technology. These power plants will have less impact on the environment than a brick kiln."
