He was at Telewest years ago and Proctor and Gamble. So was Gavin Peterson and John Petter.
Haven’t been too impressed so far and neither have some employees who I still keep in touch with. He’s been in post over a year now so you would have expected some movement if he did have a strategic plan to push BT shares on the rise. Unfortunately Ofcom and government issues are still hanging over BT. Personally he has no motivation money wise to prove himself so if it goes badly he will not be affected. To coin a phrase regards theCEO post “Same****e different colour”
Sharon White, the former head of the UK telecoms regulator Ofcom, has been recognised on the New Year Honours list.
Ms White was chief executive of Ofcom for four years, during which she oversaw the regulator taking on more responsibilities. Will GP go along to the ceremony?
Can anyone note on the back of a fag packet what she actually achieved?..
Well let's hear the 100 day plan. Not exactly rocket science in terms of who he had to speak to and would be surprised if Gav hadn't had his ears to the ground. Having held shares in BT (pre and post £14) the emphasis on customer service since Vallance, Bonfield, Verwayen, Livingston and Paterson (Petter) was always their Achilles heel. That says the world has changed and I hope the new man looks at alliances especially in the global entertainment market along with the ( insurmountable) possibilities of 5g. BT has such a presence in the fibre market and who doesn't have alternatives to terrestrial media options. Openreach is the jewel in the crown, Global should be binned and Retail etc should be invested appropriately with management structures reduced. Reduce the dividend short term for a medium long term gain.
He took over at a share price around £2 84 and leaves at £2 .53. Slashed jobs, closed branches and never answered the Global division scam. Nice one Ross. Like Goodwin the banks continue to pay to attract talent. I rest my case m'lud!
I second your comments. I worked in various management roles for 40 yeas and latterly the Complaints dept. Despite the pressure and in some cases horrendous justified complaints the scale of positive connections, service and value for money is forgotten. CEOs come and go however I worked with some fantastic people in BT, dedicated to giving their best and on a personal note have had little problem with BB and other services. Well worth the money in my opinion.
It will be interesting to hear Mr Jansen's 100 day plan once he settles in. Will he be the usual easy cost cutting CEO which anyone can do, or have fresh ideas (hopefully identified at his interview) to generate generic growth and BT sport retention. BT are still in a unique position with the OR infrastructure and well placed in R&D to deliver a seamless connectivy solution in the UK so here's hoping Mr J is a shareholders dream. Will check LinkedIn to see where Gavin gets picked up.
In terms of bonus, I recall managers especially in GS compiling their scorecards for the retrospective year just prior to submission to HR sign off. Off course they all seemed to have achieved their targets......If done correctly scorecards should have been signed off to reflect performance for the year ahead, then closed off after April or FY results. Also there were, and probably still are "managers" who have no people directly under them and are dilussional that they control resources. Simple question. Ask how many DPR / APR they complete and 121s over the year and that should reflect their responsibilities and actual accountability to prove they control people and have evidence of their performance. There is negligence in the management chain to carry out spot checks on (whether data logged or written 121 evidence) performance and HR who seem to take a back seat in this area. I base my comments based on experience and achieving bonus in some years and others, either no bonus or partial dependent on objective achievement. It really irked me what I heard managers spoke about their potential bonus as if it was a guaranteed payment. (Just like the bankers I suppose).
Appointed a clone of Gavin to deliver incumbent strategy! Could have saved money and just kept the status quo. Jan the man really isn't up for it and has not impressed in any way. BT continue to hire consultants to tell them the same message over and over again. How many times have we seen Customer Service needs to improve, bring back jobs from India, cut middle managers and concentrate or core business? Jansen will be same shi-te different colour, so no real change. Nice to know his OTB is 240% of salary which is based on what exactly to deliver?
If you don't like football BT Sport is a waste of money. I recently renewed my package on an 18 month contract. Unfortunately I had to email a senior manager due to my attempts to get a call answered as "All agents busy and experiencing high call volumes" fiasco. How many times over the years have we heard the Customer Service rhetoric and how much it needs to improve? If you could speak to someone that speaks fluent English and the calls could be answered it might just help. Take note Libby Barr!
If this is the top six god help us. I agree all those mentioned are recycled in the business. A fresh face with good diplomatic, negotiation and press proactive skills is needed and you don’t need to know about telecoms as it a new world out there. Wish I could say the two names in my mind, but controversial as they are, it might be a troll incentive to some on this board. Liv in the mix has got to be a no brainer, due to her baggage. She should remain to address the water leakage on her watch she’s still to clear up.
What about the bloke from Poundland as the shares will be worth this if they don’t get it right? Surely Jan lives in the world that knows of the best candidates???.
I would be surprised if Liv Garfield was considered under a due dilegence check. In her term OR was cut back and her replacement Joe Garner started a recruitment drive. Years of lost experienced was missed during the fibre rollout years. Maybe they did get new engineers at less cost than the old bridgade but Liv should have or did know this before all the criticism can back to BT. Her infamous back chat on a conference call regards the 802s being a cancer to BT is still a debatable point but one she never denied. Just a thought but would Petter be an option? I heard he was the brains behind some of the strategic ideas but got hacked of will GP.
Sad fact is he and the rest of the board must have retrospective scorecard objectives. Share holder value, targets, customer service, revenues all down or in decline....Need I go on? At least Livingstone was a man and stood up to his failures and took credit when it was due. I'm afraid the current captain and its first officers are all above their station in terms of values, strategy and credibility. Take the money and run boys. Againo I repeat what is Jan doing?
Two non execs to leave. Karen Richardson and Tony Ball. Played big part in the remuneration committee. (That must be a difficult job!). What benefits did these two bring to BT? Answers on a stamp please. Is this Jan swinging his axe and not before time?
